4.1

General safety provisions

You must read and comply with the safety and warning information in these
instructions.
Read these instructions carefully before you operate the Power 48-5000 sys-
tem.
Failure to comply with these instructions can result in personal injury or material
damage. Torqeedo accepts no liability for damage caused by actions which are
contrary to these instructions.
The symbols are explained in detail in Chapter 1.2, "Explanation of symbols".
Particular safety regulations may apply to certain activities. Safety and warning infor-
mation for these activities is to be found in the relevant sections of the instructions.
4.1.1

Principles

Also operate the Power 48-5000 in compliance with all local safety and accident pre-
vention regulations.
Before delivery, the Power 48-5000 was designed and manufactured with the utmost
care and with a special focus on convenience, user-friendliness and safety, and has
been extensively tested.
However, unintended use of the Power 48-5000 may result in danger to the life and
limb of the user or of third parties, in addition to extensive material damage.
4.1.2

Intended use

The Power 48-5000 can be used in combination with Torqeedo Cruise systems.
For a Cruise 4.0, one Power 48-5000 is required, while for a Cruise 10.0, two Power
48-5000s are required, connected in parallel.
Use in combination with other drive systems is also possible. The Power 48-5000
must always be operated within its specifications.
Intended use also includes:
Attachment of the Power 48-5000 to the attachment points provided for the pur-
pose.
Compliance with all directions in these instructions.
Compliance with care and maintenance intervals.
The exclusive use of original replacement parts.
Use exclusively in a dry installation location that cannot be flooded.
4.1.3

Foreseeable misuse

Use other than, or going beyond, that defined in "Intended use" is deemed to be
unintended use. The operator bears the sole responsibility for damage arising from
unintended use, and the manufacturer accepts no liability whatsoever.
Amongst others, the following are deemed to be unintended use:
Permanent contact with water.
The use of cable sets without a battery main switch for switch current and/or
without sufficient fuse protection (exception: original cable set of the Cruise
10.0).
Battery connection in series.
4.1.4

Before use

The Power 48-5000 may be operated only by adults who have been instructed in
its operation. Comply with the relevant national regulations.
The boat builder, dealer, or vendor provides training in the operation and safety
provisions of the Power 48-5000.
Before each use, test the condition and functioning of the Power 48-5000.
