8.5 PROBLEM – THE EDGE DOES NOT ADHERE WELL. IT IS
NOT CORRECTLY GLUED
Likely causes
1 - The board has non-linear or non-perpendicular edges.
2 - The edge A (Fig. 82) is not glued on the end entering the
machine, resulting in an accumulation of glue.
3 - The edge A (Fig. 82) is not glued on the edge entering the
machine, due to a lack of glue.
4 - The edge has not been glued to the board, or has not been
glued from its beginning.
5 - Presence of dust or moisture on the board edges.
6 - The board temperature is too low.
7 - Large-sized boards.
8 - Not enough glue is applied on the board.
9 - The glue has deteriorated.
10 - There is no glue left in the tank.
Solutions
1 - The cut must be clean, free of splinters and straight, with
a maximum deviation of ± 0.1 mm per linear metre. The cut
must be square (90°), with respect to both the surface and
the thickness.
2 - Make sure that the counter B (Fig. 84) indicates the exact
thickness of the edge you are working with (00020, if it mea-
sures 2 mm). If this is not the case, use the knob D (Fig. 84) to
set it to the correct measurement, first loosening the locking
handle C (Fig. 84).
3 - The gluing roller F (Fig. 83) does not turn at the same
linear speed with which the board advances. This results in a
shift between the edge A and the front end of the entering
board, which does not receive any glue. As a result, the first 2
cm of the edge are unglued.
The speed of the gluing roller F (Fig. 83) must be increased by
opening the valve J (Fig. 83) a little to match its speed to that
of the board. (See section 5.2.5).
4 - The edge A (Fig. 84) that is waiting for the board to arrive
at the gluing roller is short, slips at the beginning or does not
arrive in time to band the board. Adjust the excess front edge,
turning the nut E (Fig. 84) as explained in section 5.2.3.
5 - Store the boards in clean, dry environments.
6 - The boards must be at ambient operating temperature.
7 - Hold onto the boards, accompanying them throughout
their path through the machine, until they have completely
left the machine.
8 - Increase the amount of glue as the porosity of the board
being banded increases. (See section 5.7).
9 - Over time, the glue deteriorates and loses its adhesive
properties. Replace the glue as needed, as explained in sec-
tion 7.9.
10 - Add glue to the tank.
