Chuck Operation
• The Chuck (1) can be opened and closed by using the
included Chuck Key (8)
• Rotate the chuck key anticlockwise to open the jaws and
clockwise to close the jaws
• Do not operate the drill to open or close the chuck. Doing this
will cause permanent damage to your tool
Operation
On/Off Trigger Switch
• To start the drill, squeeze the On/Off Trigger Switch (9)
• To stop the drill, release the On/Off Trigger Switch
Lock on button
• The drill is equipped with a Lock On Button (7). This allows
the On/Off Trigger Switch (9) to be locked into the "on"
position for tasks where holding the trigger continuously
would not be possible. For example, when fitted to a drill
press stand
• To use the lock on function, depress the Lock On Button
after squeezing the On/Off Trigger Switch. The On/Off Trigger
Switch can then be released and the drill will continue to run
• To stop the drill, squeeze, then release the On/Off Trigger
Switch
Speed Adjustment
• Rotate the Speed Control Dial (10) to set the maximum speed
obtainable with the On/Off Trigger Switch (9)
Direction
• The direction of the drill can be changed using the Forward/
Reverse Selector (6)
• To run the drill in a clockwise direction, push the forward/
reverse selector to the right
• To run the drill in an anti-clockwise direction, push the
forward/reverse selector to the left
• Do not attempt to move the forward/reverse selector whilst
the drill is running
• Do not attempt to run the drill with the forward/reverse
selector in mid position
Hammer selection
• The drill can be used in either hammer drill mode (for
masonry work),
or conventional rotary drill mode (for wood, metal etc)
• To select hammer drilling mode, slide the Hammer Selection
Switch (4) to the right
• To select rotary drilling mode, slide the hammer selection
switch to the left
• The switch exists on both sides of the drill body so it can be
switched between the two modes
• Do not attempt to move the hammer selection switch whilst
the drill is running
Drilling masonry and concrete
• Hammer drill mode should be used for drilling into masonry
and concrete
• Apply moderate pressure to the rear of the drill, in line with
the drill bit
• Use masonry drill bits only. Ensure that the bit size is within
the maximum capacity of the machine (see "Specification")
• Do not apply too much pressure. If debris blocks the drill
hole, run the drill slowly and remove the bit from the hole.
Repeat until hole is cleared
WARNING: The drill bit, especially the tip, will become very hot
when drilling masonry and concrete. DO NOT touch the bit and
never allow it to come into contact with combustible materials.
WARNING: DO NOT inhale masonry dust. Wear adequate
breathing protection. Dust from masonry, concrete and similar
substances is harmful and may be toxic.
Drilling wood
• Use rotary drilling mode only
• Ensure that drill bits are suitable for wood, and are within the
maximum capacity of this machine (see "Specification")
WARNING: DO NOT inhale wood dust. Wear adequate breathing
protection. Some wood dusts may be toxic.
Drilling metal
• Ensure that drill bits are suitable for the grade of metal being
drilled, and are within the maximum capacity of the machine
(see "Specification")
• To ensure accuracy, mark the intended hole position using a
hammer and centre punch
• Use rotary drill mode only
WARNING: Never switch the machine to hammer mode when
drilling metal.
WARNING: The drill bit and the workpiece will become very
hot when drilling metal. DO NOT touch the bit and never allow
it to come into contact with combustible materials when hot.
Always use a suitable lubricant or cutting fluid, and drill at
appropriate speeds.
• Apply moderate pressure only to the drill bit, ensuring
efficient cutting and prolonged drill bit life
• Use a countersink bit to remove sharp burrs from the hole,
preventing cuts and other kinds of injury

Accessories

• A full range of accessories including drill bits, screwdriver
bits, wire brushes etc. is available from your Silverline dealer
Maintenance
WARNING: Always remove the plug from the mains power
supply before carrying out any maintenance/cleaning.
General inspection
• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They may
vibrate loose over time

damage or wear. Repairs should be carried out by an
authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies
to extension cords used with this tool
