5.3
Performing the maintenance operations
Before carrying out any maintenance operation:
- switch off the generating set,
- wait for at least 30 min until the generating set has cooled down,
IMPORTANT
- disconnect the cap(s) from the spark plug(s).
Only use original parts or equivalent parts to prevent damage to the generating set. To perform proper maintenance operations, the
generating set's side panels (A14) must be removed; once these operations are completed, the side panels must be refitted and
carefully screwed back into place.
5.3.1 Drain the engine oil
To ensure that the oil service is performed quickly and correctly, the oil must be changed when the engine is warm (start the
generating set and allow it to run for a few minutes if necessary).
1.
Place a suitable container under the oil drain screw (A11-B1), then remove the oil dipstick/filler plug (A1-B2) and the oil
drain screw.
2.
After draining completely, carefully refit the oil drain screw.
3.
Use a funnel to top up with oil (using oil which complies with the specifications given in this manual), and regularly check
the level.
The oil level must be between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick. If the oil level is too low, keep topping it up. If the oil
level is too high, drain some off.
4.
Refit and tighten the oil dipstick/filler plug.
5.
After filling, check that there are no oil leaks, and wipe away any traces of oil with a clean cloth.
5.3.2 Clean the screen filter
1.
Unscrew the fuel tank cap (A3).
2.
Remove the screen filter (A4) inside the tank.
3.
With a low-pressure dry air gun, blow air inwards onto the screen filter.
4.
Rinse it using clean fuel and dry it. Replace it if it is damaged.
5.
Put the screen filter back inside the tank and screw the cap back onto the fuel tank.
5.3.3 Replace the fuel filter
Before starting the operation, note the direction of fitting of the fuel filter: if it is the wrong way round, this can lead to major
malfunctions.
1.
Close the fuel tap (A5).
2.
Place a suitable container under the fuel filter (A12) and pinch the mounting clips (A13) to remove the worn fuel filter.
The worn fuel filter must be disposed of according to the regulations in force.
3.
Observing the direction of fitting, fit a new fuel filter on the hoses then pinch the mounting clips.
4.
Open the fuel tap and check that there are no leaks.
5.
All traces of fuel should be wiped off with a clean cloth and the fuel tap closed again.
5.3.4 Clean the sediment bowl.
1.
Close the fuel tap (A5).
2.
With a suitable container and a funnel to hand, unscrew the fuel drain screw (C5).
3.
Retighten the drain screw after draining.
4.
Remove the sediment bowl (A15-C3), the cover (C1) and the seal (C2).
5.
Use clean fuel to clean the sediment bowl, then dry it completely.
6.
Check that the cover and the seal are in good condition, and replace these if necessary.
7.
Refit the seal, the cover and the sediment bowl.
8.
Open the fuel tap and check that there are no leaks.
9.
All traces of fuel should be wiped off with a clean cloth and the fuel tap closed again.
5.3.5 Clean or replace the air filter
Risk of fire or explosion: only use soapy water and clean engine oil during this operation.
IMPORTANT
1.
Remove the air filter cover (C2) and remove the foam element (A16).
2.
Carefully check that there are no tears or holes in it: replace it if it is damaged, and at least every third clean.
3.
If its condition permits, clean the foam element: wash it in soapy water, carefully rinse it and leave it to dry completely.
4.
Soak the foam element in a little clean engine oil and squeeze it to remove any excess oil (do not wring it out).
If there is too much oil remaining in the foam, the engine will emit smoke when it is first started.
5.
Refit the foam element followed by the air filter cover, securing it in place carefully.
5.3.6 Cleaning the spark arrester
1.
On the exhaust silencer, unscrew the spark arrester mounting bolt (E1).
2.
Remove the spark arrester (A17-E2).
3.
Using a wire brush, remove the carbon deposits from the spark arrester screen.
4.
Check that the spark arrester is in good condition (no holes or cracks), and replace it if necessary.
5.
Refit the spark arrester on the exhaust silencer protection (E3) and retighten the spark arrester mounting bolt.
