• Installation, commissioning, modification and retrofitting
must only be performed by a qualified electrician.
• Disconnect the device / the system from the power supply
before starting work. In the case of installation and system
errors, mains voltage can be present on the control circuit
in the case of non-galvanically isolated devices.
• Observe the electrotechnical and professional trade
association safety regulations for installation of the equip-
ment.
• Opening the case or other manipulation voids any war-
ranty.
• In the case of improper use or any use other than for the
intended purpose, the device must no longer be used and
any warranty claim is void. Invalidating causes can be:
strong mechanical loading of the device, such as occur
when falling or voltages, currents, temperatures, humidity
outside the specifications.
• Always check all safety functions in accordance with the
applicable regulations during initial commissioning of your
machine / system and observe the specified inspection
cycles for safety devices.
• Take the following safety precautions before starting
installation / assembly or dismantling:
1. Disconnect the device / the system from the power
supply before starting work.
2. Secure the machine / system against being switched on
again.
3. Confirm that no voltage is present.
4. Ground the phases and short to ground briefly.
5. Cover and shield neighbouring live parts.
6. The devices must be installed in a switch cabinet with a
protection class of at least IP 54.
• Limited contact protection!
Protection class according to EN 60529.
− Case / terminals: IP 40 / IP 20.
− Finger-proof according to EN 50247.

Proper Use

The SNE 4028S can be used as an expansion device for all
basic devices that are part of the safety devices of a machine
and used to protect persons, material and the machine. The
feedback path Y1/Y2 must be wired to the reset or return circuit
of the basic device.
2
Function
The SNE 4028S is a two-channel, crossover-protected expan-
sion device with secure separation of control and output
circuits.
The device is located in a 45 mm housing and has eight
enabling and three messaging current paths. If the power
supply is on, the messaging current path Y03/Y04 is
conducting.
The device has a power unit that makes short-circuit-proof
24 V DC voltage available on terminals S11 and S21.
The device has two safety channels, CH1 and CH2, which
can be actuated through the terminal connections S12 and
S31/S22, for example by a basic device. Control can thus take
place through one or two channels and without crossover
monitoring. As a result, applications up to PL e/Cat. 4 or SILCL
3 can be built up.
Basic function:After supply voltage is supplied to the terminals
A1/A2 and the safety inputs closed, the enabling current paths
are closed. The enabling current paths are opened when the
safety inputs are opened/de-energised.
Operating modes / System functions
• Single- or two-channel actuation: With single-channel
actuation, the two safety channels CH1 and CH2 are con-
nected in parallel and with two-channel actuation separately.
• Without crossover detection: Both safety channels are
connected to positive potential (S12 and S31 to S11).
• With crossover detection: The safety channel CH1 is
connected to positive potential (S11 to S12) and the safety
channel CH2 to negative potential (S21 to S22).
• OSSD-compatible: Output signal switching devices (OSSD)
of a light barrier or other safety sensors with semiconductor
outputs can be processed. Test pulses which are smaller than
t
do not influence the device functions. If test pulses > t
TP
the device can interlock.
