• The SNE 4028S device's achieved stop category and
performance level (PL) in accordance with EN ISO 13849-
1 or the SILCL in accordance with DIN EN 62061 always
depends on the relevant data for the basic device (e.g.
can the expansion device achieve the performance level
(PL) of the base device as a maximum?).
• The internal relays K1 and K2 are actuated through one or
two enabling current paths of the basic device, depend-
ing on the required degree of safety.
• The enabling paths must be protected according to the
technical data specifications.
• For operation with 115–230 VAC, the operating equip-
ment of the control and reporting circuits must be de-
signed for a rated voltage up to 300 V. Basic isolation
between supply circuit and control and reporting circuits.
• Checking for proper function must be performed before
commissioning, after replacement of modules and/or
after changes to an accepted installation.
• External loads must be equipped with a suitable protec-
tion circuit for the load (e.g. RC elements, varistors, sup-
pressors ...) in order to reduce electromagnetic interfer-

ence and increase the service life of the output switching
elements.
• The control inputs and outputs are only used for the
connection of control devices and not for the connection
of external consumers such as, lamps, relays or contac-
tors.
• In case of external supply of the internal relays (e.g.
actuation via OSSD of a BWS), they do not shut off when
power supply to the device is switched off.
• In order for the specified performance level to be achie-
ved, an average annual number of switching cycles must
not be exceeded (see EN ISO 13849-1, C.2.4 and Tab.
K.1), taking into account the prevailing device load (see
EN ISO 13849-1, Tab. C.1) and the application case.
Assuming that the B10d value for the maximum load is
400,000, this results in a maximum cycle number of
400,000 / 0.1 x 30 = 133,333 switching cycles/year.
• The safety-related characteristics only apply when the
relays are switched at least once per year.
• The safety functions are not evaluated by UL. The
approval is accomplished according to UL 508, general
use applications.
