As the incorrect use of handling equipment constitutes a potential
hazard, the following safety recommendations must be respected:
Clean the steel bands thoroughly. No bearing preservative, oil or
dirt has to remain on the steel bands. Before use, the steel
bands must be lengthened to their maximum length. The bands
must be checked for damage. Damaged bands can be cracked,
broken, bent, excessively worn, corroded, severely kinked,
crushed or cut amongst other things The handles must also be
inspected for wear and damage. If the steel bands or handles are
damaged, then the tool must not be used and has to be returned
to an SKF service centre.
The Bearing Handling Tool must under no circumstances be
used for handling bearings with an oily outer ring. Bearings with
an oily outer ring will slip out of the tool when lifted. The outer
ring must be thoroughly cleaned with a cloth using solvent or a
cleaning agent.
Based on the outer ring diameter of the bearing to the handled, select
the correct Bearing Handling Tool. The bearing width must be 60 mm
(2.4 in) or greater.
