TROUBLESHOOTING

Warning! Before opening up the welding machine, switch it off, unplug it from the mains and put up a warning sign to stop anybody inadvertently
switching it back on again. If necessary, discharge the electrolytic capacitors.
Error
No welding current
Mains switch is ON, operational readiness
indicator not lit up

Poor ignition characteristics
when used for manual-electrode welding
Arc sometimes breaks during the welding
process
Mains fuse and/or safety cut-out has
tripped
Poor welding characteristic (high degree of
spattering)
TIG welding
Tungsten electrode melts off; tungsten inclusions
in the base metal during ignition
Cause
Break in mains lead
Break in welding cable connection
Faulty or broken earth connection
Maximum duty cycle exceeded - machine over-
loaded
Thermostatic cut-out system has tripped - fan is
running; temperature sensor is faulty
Insufficient cooling air reaching machine
Power module is very dirty
Fault in power section
Wrong characteristic has been selected
Arc-drop voltage of electrode too high (e.g. grooved
electrode)
Mains undervoltage
Mains fuse too weak; incorrect safety cut-out
Mains fuse is tripped under no-load conditions
Incorrect electrode polarity
Poor earth connection
Incorrect electrode polarity
Wrong shielding gas, no shielding gas
Wrong characteristic has been selected
9
Remedy
Check mains lead and mains voltage
Check plug-in connections
Earth workpiece
Observe duty cycle
Wait until cooling down period is over, machine
will switch on automatically - if not: machine
should be serviced
Ensure sufficient supply of cooling air
Remove cover of machine and clean out with
compressed air (see "Care and Maintenance")
Switch machine off and back on again. If fault
recurs - send machine in for service
Shift Electrode / TIG changeover switch to
Electrode (EL characteristic)
If possible, use different type of electrode or a
machine capable of delivering greater welding
current
Measure mains voltage at machine, increase the
cross-sectional area of the supply lead
Insert correct fuse (see technical data)
Machine should be serviced
Reverse polarity - Note manufacturer´s instruc-
tions
Fix earth clamp directly on to the work-piece
Connect TIG welding torch to "- pole"
Use inert shielding gas (argon)
Shift Electrode / TIG changeover switch to TIG
(TIG characteristic)
