Design and function
An emergency stop button is a combination of an operating element and a switching ele-
ment with up to five functions. They are available as built-in and surface mounted versions.
The operating element actuates the safety switching elements.
An emergency stop is executed by pressing the operating element.
The operating elements are unlocked by turning them to the left or right. In the case of
versions unlocked by a key, the key must be inserted into the lock and the element must be
turned with they key.
The switching elements of the panel mount version are fitted with a so-called failure
switch-off system in order to maintain the safety in the case of the switching element falling
off the operating element. The self monitoring opens a contact if the switching element is
separated from the operating element and triggers the EMERGENCY STOP function.

• The operating instructions must be made available to the person installing the EMER-
GENCY STOP / EMERGENCY OFF button. Read these instructions carefully and keep them
for future use.
• Electrical installations, commissioning and maintenance work must only be performed
by qualified electricians with relevant accident prevention training and in compliance
with the applicable regulations.
• Safety precautions and safety devices must comply with the applicable regulations.
Switching and operating elements must not be opened.
•
• Damaged products must neither be installed nor put into operation.
• Units which have been subjected to improper use (e.g. falling) or conditions outside the
specifications must undergo a functional inspection according to Section 4.
• The EMERGENCY OFF button may not be bypassed, removed or made inactive by any
means!

EMERGENCY STOP buttons in the SNH Series
are electromechanical switching devices for
the protection of persons at or in the vicinity
of machines. They are used for switching off /
shutting down machines and systems in order
to prevent or reduce occurring or existing
dangers for persons or damage to the ma-
chine or work material.
