Electrical System for Towing Hitch
Installing the electrical kit
1. Disconnect the ground terminal of the battery.
2. If necessary, remove the following coverings and panels:
Luggage trunk bottom covering
-
Loading edge covering
-
Covering on the left side inside the luggage trunk
-
Remove the external tail lights
-
Covering of the cable duct in the floor pan on the left side beneath the tail light
-
If necessary, the access strips on the driver's side
-
If necessary, the covering below the steering column
-
3. Starting in the luggage trunk, lead the cable end through the cable leadthrough (Fig. 1/5) to
the outside to the socket holder plate (Fig. 1/7).
4. Insert the rubber grommet into the cable leadthrough (Fig. 1/5).
5. On vehicles equipped with a tyre pressure control system, remove the existing rubber
grommet and pull the lines of the tyre pressure control system through the smaller bushing of
the rubber grommet from the socket cable harness (if necessary, cut a slot into the rubber
grommet and seal it properly when finished).

6. Press the contact insert into the socket housing and push the rubber grommet towards the
socket.
7. Screw the socket onto the holding plate (Fig. 1/7) using the supplied screws and nuts and cut
off the screws if necessary.
8. Secure the cable harness using cable ties.
Connecting the tail lights
9. Lay the cable end marked with "L" to the left-hand tail light (Fig. 1/6).
10. Unplug the plug of the left-hand tail light and connect it to its counterpart on the cable
harness. Plug the residual plug back into the tail light. Make sure that the plugs lock firmly into
place.
11. Lay the cable end marked with "R" along the rear end plate to the right-hand tail light (Fig.
1/8).
12. Unplug the plug of the right-hand tail light and connect it to its counterpart on the cable
harness. Plug the residual plug back into the tail light. Make sure that the plugs lock firmly into
place.
13. Install the grommets into the openings again properly.
14. Lay the cable end with the gray and blue wire to the vehicle's cable harness leading to the
tailgate in the area of the left-hand tail light (Fig. 1/4).
15. Cut through the vehicle's gray/white and gray/violet cables for the rear fog lamps.
