2. Operation
2.1 Battery
The scales requires 3 x 1.5 V AAA micro batteries. If the change battery symbol "Lo" appears, the
battery is almost flat. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment beneath the scales. Make
absolutely sure that you insert them with the correct polarity as marked.
Spent batteries and rechargeable batteries do not constitute normal household waste!
They are considered to be toxic waste and, as such, should be disposed of in special
containers, toxic waste collection points or brought to electrical goods dealers.
Note: Batteries containing pollutant substances are marked as follows:
Pb = Battery contains lead, Cd = Battery contains cadmium, Hg = Battery contains
mercury.
If provided, pull out the battery insulating strip at the battery compartment or remove the protec-
tive film from the battery and insert the battery with the correct polarity. If the scale fails to operate,
remove the battery completely and reinsert it.
Place the scale on a level and solid surface; this is important for ensuring that the scale weighs cor-
rectly.
2.2 Weighing
On delivery the scale is set to the unit "g". On the back of the scale there is a
button that can be pressed to set the unit to "g" and "lb/oz".
Press the "on/off" sensor button lightly to switch on the scale. It is not necessary to press hard.
/
The display shows "8888
" first. When "0 g" appears, the scale is ready for measuring.

Weighing without a bowl
Place the item to be weighed directly on the scale. The weight thereof is displayed immediately.
Weighing with a container:
If you place a container on the scale before switching it on, the weight of the container will not be
displayed.
If you remove the container from the scale, the display will show a negative value. However, this will
only be to –999 g, then "0 – Ld" will be displayed.
Press "tare" to reset the scale to "0".
You will have to wait approx. 3 seconds for the scale to show "0".
If you place a container on the scale after switching it on, the weight of the container will be displa-
yed. Press "tare" and the scale will display "0" again after approx. 3 seconds.
Add ingredients
If you add any further ingredients (e.g. baking ingredients), the scale displays the new total weight. If
you however wish to see the individual weights of the added ingredients, press "tara" (adding func-
tion).
NOTe: "0 - Ld" appears in the display if more than 5 kg (11 lb) in total is placed on the scale.
Automatic switch-off
If the kitchen scale is left unused for longer than approx. 120 seconds, it automatically switches
itself off! You can also turn the scale off manually by pressing the button "on/off".
2.3 Disposal
Please dispose of the device in accordance with the directive 2002/96/EG – WEEE (Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment). If you have any queries, please refer to the local authori-
ties responsible for waste disposal.
