Electrical System for Towing Hitch
Installing the electrical kit
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. If necessary, remove the following covers and panels:

In the luggage compartment
Luggage compartment bottom covering

Loading edge covering
-
Right-hand side covering
-
•
On the right-hand side of the vehicle
Access strips on passenger side
-
Covering below the glove box
-
Carpet in the kick space on the passenger front-seat (loosen the passenger front seat)

Battery cover

3. Remove the vehicle's 40 mm hole cover in the floor pan below the right tail light (Fig. 1/2).
4. On vehicles equipped with a parking distance control (PDC), remove the existing rubber
grommet and pull the PDC lines through the bushing of the rubber grommet from the socket
cable harness (if necessary, cut a slot into the rubber grommet and seal it properly when
finished).
5. Lay the cable end with the 4-, 6- and 8-pin plug from the outside through the cable
leadthrough to the unit holder (Fig. 1/3).
6. Insert the rubber grommet into the cable leadthrough (Fig. 1/2).
7. Lay the socket end of the cable set to the socket holder plate (Fig. 1/1) and secure it with the
supplied cable ties.
Installing the socket
8. Press the contact insert into the socket housing and push the rubber grommet towards the
socket.
9. Screw the socket onto the holding plate (Fig. 1/1) using the supplied screws.
Connecting the trailer control unit
Note
If the unit holder A 169 890 04 14 is not installed in the vehicle, it has to be ordered from a
licensed dealer and installed in its intended position. Fasten the trailer control module (Fig.
1/3) to this unit holder.
Alternatively, the trailer control module can also be fastened in a suitable position using the
velcro tape supplied.
