Storage and inactivity for long periods
If the machine is likely to be unused for a long period (more
than 1 month), disconnect the cable from the battery and
follow the instructions in the engine manual.
CAUTION: Before storing the machine, remove the key
and protect the ignition switch by closing the cap
(A, Fig.26).
WARNING: Carefully remove any dry grass cuttings
which may have collected around the engine or
silencer to prevent their catching fire the next time the
machine is used.
- Empty the fuel tank by disconnecting the tube situated at the inlet
of the fuel filter (B, Fig.11), located near to the rear left wheel, and
follow the instructions in the Fuel chapter on page 26.
- Remove the oil from the engine as described in Changing
engine oil on page 31.
- Put the machine away in a dry, sheltered place out of reach
of children and preferably covered with a cloth.
- The machine can also be put away as shown in Fig.17 after
having removed the grass-catcher. To store the machine in
this way, it is necessary that: a) the support surface is flat and
hard; b) the machine is raised onto one end by two people
(two people are also required to return it to the horizontal
position); c) the machine is strapped to the wall to prevent it
tipping forward accidentally.
Always remove the tow hook before fitting it in the
vertical position (only on models that are so
equipped).
CAUTION: The battery must be kept in a cool and dry
place. Before a long storage period (more than 1 month),
always charge the battery, and then recharge before using
again (Battery chapter on page 23).
The next time the machine is used, check that there are no fuel
leaks from the tubes, fuel stop-cock or carburettor.

6.4 Transporting

WARNING: The machine must not be driven or towed
on a public road.
- To transport the machine, use a suitable motor vehicle of
adequate power and size or an approved trailer.
- When loading the machine onto the vehicle, always choose
a level area that is away from traffic and free from potentially
hazardous objects.
- The machine is heavy and may cause serious damage or
injury from crushing. Use extreme caution when loading and
unloading it from vehicles or trailers.
- Always use certified loading ramps that are 4 times longer
than the height of the vehicle's load body, of adequate width,
with a non-slip surface and of solid construction to support
the machine's weight.
- The machine can also be strapped to a pallet and loaded
using a forklift truck. In this case the forklift truck must be
driven by an authorised operator.
WARNING: The machine MUST NOT be lifted using
belts, chains or hooks.
- Load the machine with the engine switched off, without a
30
driver and pushed by an adequate number of people.
- The machine must be transported in a horizontal position,
with the tank empty, the fuel stop-cock closed, the cutting
deck lowered and the parking brake engaged, also ensuring
compliance with applicable transport regulations for such
machines.
- Strap the machine to the vehicle or trailer using approved
tension straps, ensuring that it is correctly and securely
fastened, with four chocks on the rear wheels.
WARNING: The parking brake alone does not
guarantee the stability of the machine during
transport.
- During transport, no-one must remain seated on the machine.
- Before transporting the machine on public roads, refer to and
adhere to applicable local highway regulations.
CAUTION: Before transporting the machine, remove the
key and protect the ignition switch by closing the cap
(A, Fig.26).
7. MAINTENANCE
EMISSIONS COMPLIANCE
This engine, including the emissions control system, must be
operated, used and maintained in accordance with the
instructions provided in the user's manual in order to maintain
the emissions performance within the legal requirements
applicable to non-road mobile machinery.
No deliberate tampering with or misuse of the engine
emissions control system has to take place.
Incorrect operation, use or maintenance of the engine or of the
non-road mobile machinery could result in possible
malfunctions of the emissions control system to a point where
the legal requirements applicable are not respected ; in such
case a prompt action must be taken in order to rectify the
system's malfunctions and restore the applicable requirements.
Examples, not exhaustive, of incorrect operation, use or
maintenance are:
- Forcing or breaking the devices for metering the fuel;
- Use of fuel and/or engine oil not fulfilling the characteristics
shown in the chapter STARTER / FUELING;
- Use of not original spare parts, for example spark plug, etc. ;
- Missing or improper maintenance of the exhaust system,
including incorrect timing of maintenance for muffler, spark
plug, air filter, etc.
WARNING: Tampering with this engine makes the EU
emissions certification no more valid .
Before carrying out maintenance, also carefully read the
engine manual.
CAUTION: Before servicing the machine, remove the key
and protect the ignition switch by closing the cap
(A, Fig.26).
