3.2.3

Storage

Just like any battery pack using rechargeable Lithium-Ion or Lithium-Ion Polymer elements,
battery capacity will fall during storage.
This unavoidable phenomenon is caused by the chemical reagents intended to maintain or
return stored energy degrading. The higher the temperature, the greater the effect.
Storing completely discharged battery packs is not recommended.
Therefore, if batteries must be stored, it is important to comply with the following
durations and conditions at receipt to guarantee optimum capacity when re-used:
• Charge the batteries using the charger or TPH700 Ex radio.
• Scrap any discharged battery left for more than 3 months without being recharged
(see Section 3.2.6).
• Battery storage temperature after the delivery date: -20 °C to +35 °C enabling storage
for up to 4 months.
• Preferably store the batteries in their original packaging or in compliance with the
precautions described in Section 3.2.4.
• Store the batteries in a clean room under surveillance. In particular, the room must be
equipped with smoke detectors, and, if possible, store the boxes containing the batteries
near to one of these detectors.
• Do not store dangerous products in the same room as the batteries.
• Do not store the batteries in an explosive environment.
• Do not store the batteries near to a source of heat or expose the batteries to sunlight.
• The storage room must be dry, with relative humidity below 65%.
• Carry out a periodic inspection of the batteries and packaging in accordance with the
storage conditions above. For instance, regularly check that the contacts of a few
batteries are clean.
• During handling and transport, do not expose the batteries to excessive shocks or
vibrations.
• During extended storage, the batteries must be removed from the original packaging of
the TPH700 Ex.
Furthermore, users are strongly disadvised to store TPH700 Ex radios with the battery in
place.
