4. Functional Description

The combination test bench incorporates the functions of a test
bench for generators and starting motors.

4.1 Generator testing

The generator is clamped to the combination test bench by means
of suitable clamping devices. The generator (4/5) is powered by
a drive motor (4/1). the combination test bench subjects the
generator to simulated operating conditions. Display instruments
show voltage, current and rotational speed. All of the generator's
functions can be tested by varying rotational speed and load.

4.2 Starting motor testing

The starting motor is clamped to the combination test bench by
means of suitable clamping devices. The combination test bench
provides the starting motor with current. The load is applied by
means of a pedal (13) (drum brake). The function of the starting
motor can be tested by altering the load and observing the display
instruments.

5. Setting up and connection

The working area must be identified as an area of
excessive noise. The operator must provide a
separate pair of ear protectors for each employee
(e.g. hearing protection muffs).

5.1 Space required

In order to be able the operate the test bench without hindrance,
it is necessary to have a space available of 2.5 m in width x 1.9 m
deep.

5.2 Setting up

After loosening and carefully removing the packaging, lift the test
bench from the pallet and set it down in a suitable prepared place.
It is advisable to put felt strips underneath the corners of the test
bench. Fastening to the floor is not necessary.

5.3 Mains connection

The unit may only be connected to the mains by a
certified electrician.
Local regulations must be adhered to.
The combination test bench is designed for 400 V, 50/60 Hz. A
motor circuit breaker for 25 A (400 V) with thermal and short-
circuit trips must be provided by the customer. The terminals are
located in the switchbox. Every combination test bench is
accompanied by a wiring diagram.

5.4 Battery connection

Batteries contain acid. Danger of burning!
If battery acid comes in contact with skin or eyes,
rinse eyes and affected part of the body imme-
diately with lots of clean water and call a physician.
Prevent contact with battery acid by wearing
appropriate protective work clothing.
2 x 6 V 150 Ah and 1 x 12 V 143 Ah batteries are to be used for
testing 6/12/24 assemblies. If 6 V assemblies doe not have to be
tested, it is possible to use 2 x 12 V 143 Ah batteries. In this case,
the cable provided for the 6 V connection must be well insulated
or removed. The batteries must be fully charged (acid density min.
1.24 kg/l)
The battery compartment is located in the bottom of the test bench
and is close off by a flap (12). After unlatching the bracket, the flap
can be unhooked from its hinges. The battery compartment is then
readily accessible for putting in the batteries.
