PREPARING THE JUMP STARTER – CHARGING THE SUPERCAPACITOR
In order to be able to jump start a vehicle, the internal supercapacitor has to be pre-charged. This can be
accomplished in different ways:
Charging the supercapacitor with the help of the vehicle´s battery (standard method)
The supercapacitor jump starter only needs very low remaining power from the battery, so that a weak
battery (battery voltage over 5 volts) can still charge the supercapacitor:
-
Connect the red battery clamp to the vehicle's battery positive (+) terminal and connect the
black battery clamp to the vehicle's battery negative (-) terminal. This method is the fastest
way to charge (up to 3 minutes)
Alternatively you may use the cigarette-lighter-charging cable: Use the including 12V charging
adapter to connect to the 12V charging input (7) of the SC1600A and the vehicles 12V output.
Some vehicles may require to turn the ignition on to apply voltage to the 12V output. Pre-
charging the supercapacitor with this method can take up to 5 minutes.
-
Turn on the device by pressing the power button. (3)
-
The SC1600A will measure the battery voltage (10) and
the inner resistance (12) of the connected battery. Based
upon this data, it will recommend if the battery should be
recharged (LCD display "NEED RECHARGE") or replaced
(LCD display "REPLACE BATTERY")
-
If the vehicle´s battery is good enough to charge the supercapacitor (supercapacitor voltage
15V) the LCD display will show „JUMP START READY". If the „JUMP START READY"-message will
not light up and the capacitor voltage (11) is over 14V, press the Boost-button (5) for 2 seconds.
-
10 seconds after the „JUMP START READY"-message is displayed, the device is ready to jump
start your vehicle.
If your vehicle´s battery voltage is very low (battery voltage lower than 5 Volts), the supercapacitor
cannot be charged by the vehicle´s battery and another method of pre-charging the supercapacitor has
to be chosen.
