MAINTENANCE, CONTROL AND REPAIR
8.1
MAINTENANCE AND CONTROL
Generally, the instantaneous safety gear block does not need any maintenance. The safety gear heads have
been conceived in such a way that, with proper use without damages during their life, there is no need for
maintenance interventions of any kind.
However, according to the frequency of use, several controls should be carried out at regular intervals (at
least twice a year), in order of guarantee the safe operation of the system.
Changes, damages or other irregularities must be notified and, if necessary, repaired within the limits of the
allowed feasibility.
Periodical controls increase, not only the safety, but also the trouble free and long-life operation of the system.
Particularly recommended are controls and maintenance operations before the operating tests foreseen by
the law take place.
If, after the inspection of the above-mentioned control points regarding the operation efficiency, there are any
doubts, please contact your supplier.
MAINTENANCE AND CONTROL SCHEDULE FOR INSTANTANEOUS SAFETY GEAR BLOCKS
• Check the free run guide shoe and rollers/guide rails;
• Check the damage or wear of the rollers;
• Check the mobility of the engaging system;
• Check the end play and the capacity of rotation of the shaft, if necessary, adjust it;
• Check the synchronization of the right and left safety gear head;
• Check the mobility and function of the engaging linkage and the fastening of the rope. Check
synchronization;
• Check the safety contact on function/distance; if necessary, adjust it (see chapter "Setting up operations");
• Check the damage or the distortion of the safety gear as well as of the adjacent structural elements;
• Check the lubrication condition of the guide rails (if indicated), if necessary, refill the oiler or change the oil;
• Clean the plant if very dirty.
8.2
EXECUTION OF REPAIRS
The instantaneous safety gear block types SP50 and SP60, regarding the assembly and maintenance
operations, can easily be disassembled and assembled again (e.g. in order to reconstruct the engaging
linkage o similar).
However, the understanding is that the operation is properly carried out and that the function, by it, is affected
in no way.
Repairs, for e. g. the replacement of faulty parts for breakage or strong wear are not allowed.
The reason are the following:
• Rules and regulations concerning guarantee and safety technical dispositions;
• Only original spare-parts must be mounted (they are not sold by the factory, they are not singularly
obtainable);
• Repairs are carried out only in sets and returned tested according to their system.
However, should any kind of damage appear to the safety gear, please contact your supplier.
ATTENTION: the operation of the elevator plant is not allowed, even temporarily, without the safety gear.
ALLOWED REPAIRS
• The allowed repairs on the safety gear system that do not directly involve the safety gear head (e.g.:
engaging linkage, shaft, etc.) can and must be carried out on location. This means that all that has been done
during the first assembly is also subject to repair and maintenance obligation. It is obvious that such repairs on
the safety system must be carried out properly and with the utmost care, in order to guarantee the safety and
long-life operation of the plant.
