Introduction
The Vetus Drive propeller shaft coupling reduces the transmission of noise and
vibrations from the engine mounting to the ship. The homokinetic coupling in-
sulates the fixed propeller shaft from engine vibrations.
This homokinetic coupling is designed to absorb axial movements. It is not,
however, designed to compensate for installation errors, but rather allows the
motor and motor supports to move while the engine is running,
and since the engine does not have to absorb any thrust, can be mounted on
extra-soft engine supports.
2

Storage and transport

• Keep the homokinetic coupling horizontal during storage and transport.
• Always pick the coupling up by its middle!
• Do not allow the coupling to rest on the rubber covers.
3
Build-in guidelines
The following must be taken into account when determining the position of the
propeller shaft relative to the engine:
3.1
Build-in length
The build-in length (L) of the homokinetic coupling is very important!
The distance between the mounting-plate and the flange of the reverse clutch
(A) must be the same length as that given in the table below for the type of pro-
peller shaft coupling to be fitted.
The length L must be checked after fitting the thrust bearing and the flange to
the reverse clutch; see 4.4.
