c) Installing the ailerons and the aileron linkage
To install the two ailerons (figure 1a, pos. 3) to the wing (figure 1a, pos. 2) you
need a suitable hinge strip which is available as an accessory.
When installing the ailerons, bear in mind that there is a left and a right aileron.
To tell the two ailerons apart, look at the decals or the slanted fronts of the
ailerons. The resulting gap is at the bottom of the wing.
First, cut a hinge strip to the length of the aileron and attach it to the aileron so
that it only touches it with half its width.
Then, attach the aileron to the wing and press down the hinge strip.
Make sure that there is a little gap between the aileron and the wing. This is
where the lower and the upper hinge tape are later attached for a permanent
connection (figure 4a).
Fold up the aileron which is attached at the top onto the wing and attach another
hinge strip to the bottom (figure 4b).
Make sure that the hinge strip completely and evenly touches the wing.
Manually move the aileron up and down several times so that the upper and
the lower hinge strip properly connect at the glued area.
Use a foil pen the mark the position of the two horns (fig. 1b, pos. 6) on the
aileron. Make sure that the two linkages (fig. 1b, pos. 7) are connected to the
servos in a straight line and that they are not blocked mechanically.
Use a balsa cutter to cut a suitable slot into the aileron and glue on the horn (1)
using 5-minute epoxy glue.
Then hook up the linkages (2) to the horns (fig. 4c).
