TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Engine fails to start
Engine runs erratic.
Engine overheats.
Idles poorly.
Excessive vibration/noise
Mower will not mulch
grass.
Uneven cut.
Cause
Engine start/stop lever disengaged. Engage engine start/stop lever.
Spark plug wire disconnected.
Fuel tank empty or stale fuel.
Engine not primed.
Faulty spark plug.
Blocked fuel line.
Engine flooded.
Spark plug wire loose.
Blocked fuel line or stale fuel.
Water or dirt in fuel system.
Dirty air filter
Engine oil level low.
Air flow restricted.
Spark plug fouled, faulty, or gap
too wide.
Dirty air cleaner.
Blade loose or unbalanced.
Bent/damaged blade.
Wet grass.
Excessively high grass.
Dull blade.
Solution
Connect spark plug wire.
Fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
Press primer bulb.
Clean, adjust gap, or replace.
Clean fuel line.
Wait a few minutes to restart, do not prime.
Connect and tighten spark plug wire.
Clean fuel line. Fill tank with clean, fresh
gasoline. Drain carburetor bowl.
Drain fuel tank. Refill with fresh fuel.
Clean or replace the filter.
Fill crankcase with proper oil.
Clean area around and on top of engine.
Reset gap or replace spark plug.
Clean or replace the filter.
Tighten and balance blade.
Replace the blade.
Do not mow when grass is wet, wait until dry
to cut.
Mow once at a high cutting height, then mow
again at desired height or make a narrower
cutting path.
Sharpen or replace blade.
