Equipment
The ram is one of the pieces of rescue equipment that makes it possible to reach victims. This tool is
used during rescue operations to force structural elements or vehicle components apart. Rams come in
three models: single-sided, double-sided and telescopic. The telescopic model can reach a large
spreading length while remaining small enough to fit into confined spaces. Some rams have
interchangeable heads so that accessories for different purposes can be used. The ram is produced as
a hand tool that can be operated by one person. On one or both sides there is a plunger with a grip
head. A hydraulic cylinder makes this plunger move axially. The high hydraulic pressure that is used
means these tools can apply enormous forces. The ram can be used independently because of the
battery-driven system.
