2. INTRODUCTION
2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
WELDKAR MMA 1630
The Weldkar MMA 1630 weld inverter is the ideal
partner for all types of welding maintenance and repair
work. Thanks to the light weight of the device (4.9 kg),
its solid build and the adjustable carrying strap, the
Weldkar MMA 1630 is the perfect welding aid for on-
location applications.
With a mains voltage take-up of 230 Volts and a welding
current range of between 10 and 160 Amps, this
machine can effortlessly weld coated electrodes up to
3.25 mm.
In addition to MMA (electrode) welding, this machine is
also suitable for welding according to the TIG striking
principle. This weld inverter is equipped with a digital
ammeter for adjusting and reading out the welding
current and a variety of other functions to fully meet the
varying needs of the modern welder. The MMA 1630
is supplied complete in a solid case with accessories,
including a 4-metre earthing cable with earth terminal
and 4-metre welding cable with electrode holder. The
device is built fully in accordance with the European IEC
60974-1 standard.
The machine enjoys protection class IP 23 S (splash
waterproof) and EMC protection.
The weld inverter is supplied as standard with a:

2.4 THERMAL PROTECTION
This inverter is protected by a thermostat. When the
thermostat is tripped, the machine stops delivering
current but the fan continues to run. The yellow led (5)
lights to indicate when it is tripped.
Do not shut off the welding machine until the led has
gone off.
2.5 MOTOR-DRIVEN GENERATORS
These must have a power equal to or greater than
6KVA, and must not deliver a voltage greater than 265V.
2.6 PROTECTION AGAINST SHORT-CIRCUITS
(ANTISTICK)
If a short-circuit occurs lasting more than two seconds
when welding with coated electrodes, the current is
reduced to harmless levels.
