CHIMNEY CAP
The flue draught also depends on the suitability of the chimney cap.
It is therefore indispensable that the outlet cross-section be twice the internal cross-section of the flue when making
the chimney cap by hand.
As it will always rise above the roof ridge, the chimney cap must also ensure exhaust even in the presence of wind
(see Picture 10)
The chimney cap must meet the following requirements:
•
The internal cross-section must be equivalent to that of the chimney.
•
The useful outlet cross-section must be twice that of the internal cross-section of the flue.
•
It must be constructed in such a way as to impede the penetration of rain, snow, or any foreign body into the flue.
•
It must be easy to inspect for any maintenance and cleaning operations.

(1) In the case of adjacent flues, one chimney cap must rise above
the other by at least 50 cm to prevent the transfer of pressure
between the flues.

(1) The chimney cap must not have any obstacles within 10 m
from walls, pitch, and trees. In such case, it must be raised at
least 1 m above the obstacles.
The chimney cap must rise above the roof ridge by at least 1 m.
