UNPACKING AND INSPECTION
1. Inspecting the tubes
Open the box or boxes containing the vacuum tubes and the heat pipes. Check that all the vacuum tubes are intact and that the
bottom of each tube is still silver. If it is white or clear, this means that it is broken and needs to be replaced. Each vacuum tube con-
tains eight metal fins for heat transfer. As soon as you take the tubes out of the box, put the rubber caps that you will find in the
collector box on each end. They will protect the bottom end of each glass tube and prevent them breaking if knocked. Do not remo-
ve them or expose the pipes to sunlight until they are installed. Otherwise the inner tube and the heat transfer fin will become too
hot. The outside glass surface, however, will not get warm.
2. Heat pipes
If the heat pipes bend during handling, do not worry because it is not easy to spoil them. You need only ensure that they are rela-
tively straight before placing them in the vacuum pipes.
3. Holder
Unpack the standard bracket kit which is packaged with the collector. If you are going to use a bracket for flat roofs or gently-slo-
ping roofs, the components and the collector will be packed separately. You may need to purchase screws or other bindings to
adjust the surface where it is to be installed. The front rails on the bracket already contain the plates and screws required to hold
the collector and the lower rail. For each lower rail on the bracket, there are two extra sets of screws which can be used to secure
the fastenings which attach them to the roof.
