23 TIMER REC Switch
-Engage this switch to utilize the Timer Rec function. You can combine
both, the TIMER
REC, AUTO
REWIND and AUTO PLAY switches as
well as the TIMER
REC, AUTO
REWIND,
AUTO
PLAY
and MEM-
ORY
switches. In the latter case the timer will first start the recording.
Then,
once
the recording
has begun, the Auto
Repeat and Memory
functions will activate.

Other than, when Timer Recording is being conducted, the TIMER
REC switch should always be in the OFF position.
24 DOLBY NR Switch
Dolby Noise Reduction is a closed system; a recording made with Dolby
NR
should
be played
back
with
Dolby
NR
as well. The system
is
switched
in and out by this DOLBY
NR switch. Use it to lessen high-
frequency
"hiss" noise. It works in this manner:
low-level pianissimo
signals are boosted during recording to a level well above the noise. On
playback, they are reduced in level by a like amount. Thus, the original
Pianissimo level is regained, but well above the hiss noise.

25 MPX FILTER Switch
In order to safeguard against malfunctions in the Dolby Noise Reduc-
tion system caused by the pilot signal included in the FM stereo broad-
cast signals, set this switch to ON when recording an FM stereo broad-
cast with the Dolby NR system. Set the switch to OFF for recording
other programs except FM stereo braodcasts with the Dolby NR system.
