Section 4 Initial tests for float
4.1 Examine the float
The tests in this document are to make sure the Navis operates correctly before it is
deployed. These tests are required to be sent to the manufacturer for any warranty
claims.
There are three parts of tests for the float:
1. Post-shipment
2. In-laboratory
3. Pre-deployment
All tests are required and must be done in the order above. The manufacturer
recommends that these tests are also done at the point of deployment, though that is not
always possible.
In-laboratory
Required: soon after shipment is received
Required: one month before final shipment
Optional: after in-lab tests, before float is packed
for final shipment
Refer to the Navis Deployment Manual, the Navis Mission Control Manual, and the Navis
Configuration Manual for more information.
Common models of Navis floats are shown below:
Clearco product PSF-20cSt pure silicone fluid is not hazardous per US federal OSHA Hazardous
Communications Standard.
Examine the external parts of the float and test the function of the float upon receipt of the
float.
Make sure that the container that the float was shipped in and the float itself have no
external damage. Record this information and photograph any damage.
1. Examine the shock stickers on the container for possible damage.
2. Examine the container for any damage.
3. Examine the CTD head of the float and the lower cowling for any damage. Look for
any scratches that go through the anodized layer on the hull of the float.
4. If the shock stickers are broken but no damage shows on the float, do the
self-test
on page 11.
