Drilling with non SDS Drill Bits (Fig. 8)
For drilling with non SDS drill bits in wood, metal and plastic, use an adapter.
a. Lock the trigger switch "OFF" on the tool by placing the direction-of-rotation selector in the
center position.
b. Clean and lightly lubricate the adapter before inserting it into the chuck.
c. Pull the locking sleeve back and insert the adapter in the SDS+ chuck while turning and
pushing the adapter until it engages; the adapter locks in position automatically.
d. Pull the adapter to check that it is locked correctly.
e. Set the mode selector to normal drilling when using with the adapter.

Chuck Adapter
Wood Drilling (Normal Drilling
Mode)
For maximum performance, use high-speed
steel or brad-point bits for wood drilling, and
set the tool to Normal Drilling Mode
a. Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent
the bit from slipping off the starting point.
b. Increase speed as the drill bit bites into the
material.
c. When drilling "through" holes, place a block
of wood behind the workpiece to prevent
ragged or splintered edges on the back side
of the hole (Fig. 9).
NOTICE: Bits may overheat unless pulled out
frequently to clear chips from flutes.
