Please read these operating instructions carefully
prior to operating the unit and keep them for later
use.
1 Applications
This light effect unit is ideally suited for professional
applications on stage and in discothèques. It creates
coloured light and light patterns by means of extra
bright LEDs. The unit can be controlled via the inte-
grated microphone, via the remote control LC-3 or
FSC-3 (accessories), or via a DMX light control unit.
2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to all required directives of the
EU and is therefore marked with
.
WARNING
The unit is supplied with hazardous
mains voltage (230 V~). Leave servic-
ing to skilled personnel only and
never insert anything through the air
vents; you will risk an electric shock!
Please observe the following items in any case:
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient tempera-
ture range 0 – 40 °C).
Do not cover the air vents; the heat generated
within the unit must be carried off.
Do not operate the unit and immediately dis-
connect the mains plug from the socket
1. in case of visible damage to the unit or to the
mains cable,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit
was dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled
personnel.
Never pull the mains cable for disconnecting the
mains plug from the socket, always seize the plug.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for
any resulting personal damage or material
damage will be accepted if the unit is used for
other purposes than originally intended, if it is not
safely installed, not correctly operated, or not
repaired in an expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation de-
finitively, take it to a local recycling plant for
a disposal which is not harmful to the envi-
ronment.
3 Installation
The unit must be installed safely and expertly.
WARNING
If the unit is installed as a suspended
load above persons, it must addi-
tionally be secured (e. g. by a safety
rope). Fasten the safety rope in such
a way that the maximum falling
distance of the unit is 20 cm.
4 Initial Operation
WARNING
Never look directly into the LEDs; this
may cause eye damage.
Please note that very fast light
changes may trigger epileptic sei-
zures with photosensitive persons
and persons with epilepsy!
Connect the mains cable to the mains jack POWER
and connect the mains plug to a socket (230 V~/
50 Hz). Thus, model RGBL-80DMX is switched on.
Switch on the other models with the POWER switch.
Caution: Do not connect the units to the mains volt-
age via a dimmer!

4.1 Basic adjustments
The following basic adjustments can be made via a
menu (fig. 1). Press the button MENU (fig. 2) so
many times until the desired function is indicated.
Then press the button ENTER.
Blackout mode on or off
Select with the button DOWN or UP:
The LEDs will light permanently. Always select
this adjustment if the unit is operated without
DMX control unit.
The LEDs will light only if a DMX control signal
is applied to the jack DMX INPUT. As soon as
the DMX control unit is switched off, all LEDs
will be extinguished.
To memorize, press the button ENTER.
Display on or off
Select with the button DOWN or UP:
The display will always be switched on.
The display will be switched off 30 seconds
after the last button has been pressed. The
next time a button is pressed, it will be switched
on again.
To memorize, press the button ENTER.
Display representation
Select with the button ENTER and memorize at the
same time:

To deactivate the menu, keep the button MENU
pressed until the display returns to
30 seconds.
5 Operation without DMX Control Unit
No DMX control signal must be applied to the jack
DMX INPUT. The yellow LED MASTER will light up
and the display will indicate
5.1 Adjusting the colour
A colour can be selected via the menu:
1) Press the button MENU so many times until the
display will indicate
ton ENTER. The current colour will be indicated
from 1 (red) to 9 (white) or
manual colour adjustment.
2) Select the desired colour or the manual colour
adjustment with the button DOWN or UP. Confirm
with the button ENTER.
3) For the manual colour adjustment, after pressing
the button ENTER, adjust the brightness for the
red LEDs with the buttons DOWN and UP. Then
press the button ENTER once again and repeat
the procedure for the green and blue LEDs.

4) To deactivate the menu, keep the button MENU
pressed until the display returns to

5.2 Automatic or music-controlled change of
colour and pattern
The unit offers various programmes (macros) for
changing the colour and pattern to be selected via a
menu:
1) Press the button MENU so many times until the
display will indicate
button ENTER. The display will indicate the cur-
rent programme.
2) Select the desired programme with the button
DOWN or UP:
= random mode
...
= Show 1 ... 8 (9)
= auto fade (automatic fading)
3) After programme selection, press the button
ENTER and select the speed
memorize, press the button ENTER. To de-
activate the menu, keep the button MENU pressed
until the display returns to
30 seconds.
4) The programme selected will be controlled by the
beat of the music picked up by the microphone
MIC.

models
280DMX, RGBL-380DMX, and RGBL-480DMX:
Adjust the microphone sensitivity with the control
SENSITIVITY (SENS). If a colour or pattern is

changed by a music signal, the green LED
SOUND will shortly light up.
5) For automatic run of the selected programme at
the speed adjusted in the menu, make sure that
the microphone will not pick up any signal or set
the control SENSITIVITY (SENS) to the position
MIN.
5.3 Interconnecting several units
It is possible to interconnect several light effect units
of the same model in order to synchronize all slave
units via a master unit.
1) Connect the jack DMX OUTPUT of the master
unit via a 3-pole XLR cable to the jack DMX
INPUT of the first slave unit.
2) Connect the jack DMX OUTPUT of the first slave
unit to the jack DMX INPUT of the second slave
unit.
3) As soon as the control signals from the master
unit are applied to the slave units, the red LED
SLAVE will light up on the slave units and the dis-
play will indicate
5.4 Remote control
The remote control LC-3 or FSC-3 (accessories)
allows to control the following functions. Connect the
remote control to the jack REMOTE CONTROL
(CTRL) ONLY.

1) Connect the jack DMX INPUT to the DMX output
(Manu) for

chain. Connect a 120 Ω terminating plug (e. g.
DLT-123 from "img Stage Line") to the DMX out-
put jack of the last DMX-controlled unit in the

2) Adjust the DMX start address, i. e. the address
which will control the first DMX channel of the
effect unit on the DMX control unit:
a) Press the button MENU once so that the dis-
play will indicate

b) Press the button ENTER. The address ad-
justed will be indicated.
c) Adjust the address with the button DOWN or
UP and memorize with the button ENTER.
3) Adjust the number of DMX channels to be used
for controlling the effect unit. Also see fig. 3.
