DUAL-SPEED PUMP
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The main characteristic of the dual-speed pump is the possibility to select the speed to work with, depending on the usage needs.
As a rule of thumb, the filtering process will be performed in the low-speed mode with the aim of taking advantage of its
energy-saving characteristics, low noise level and better filtering quality. In accordance with these features, you will need
to roughly double the filtering times as the flow rate decreases to half when working at low speed.
It is very likely that you have some accessories in your pool that require the pump to be in use for them to operate. These
elements can be very varied, and include cleaning systems, heat exchangers and chemical dosing systems. In most cases
these devices can work correctly at low speed (provided that the minimum flow of operation is less than 6 m
3
/h). If this
is not the case, you can normally operate the equipment at high speed for the time necessary to fulfil its function.
In the event of performing chemical shock treatments or using cleaning products, it is suggested that the high-speed mode
is used. Filter backwash operations should always be performed at high speed.
With the above comments, you should set your time programming in the control panel considering not only the operating
time but also the operating speed.
HOW TO MOVE FROM A SINGLE-SPEED TO A DUAL-SPEED CONFIGURATION
As a rule of thumb, most of the operating time will be spent in low-speed mode but part of the time will be spent at high
speed. A good starting point would be to work at 80%-20%, although this will depend on the filtering needs and the use
of the pool.
This means that 80% of the high-speed operating time will be moved to low speed (meaning that the time established
at low speed should be doubled compared to at high speed). The remaining 20% will be kept at high speed.
Starting point:
Single-speed pump, filtering five hours per day.
Working hours: ON from 11am to 4pm
Proposal:
Out of the five hours of operation, 4 hours are spent at low speed. This would mean doubling the working time to eight
hours.
The hour at high speed will remain in the same mode.
Operation:
LOW SPEED "ECO": from 9 to 12am and from 1 to 6pm
HIGH SPEED "TURBO": 12 to 1pm
These times may vary depending on each specific situation.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Can the suction vacuum heads work at low speed?
The range of suction vacuum heads available is very large, and the flow-pressure needs for each of them vary greatly. In
most cases the vacuum head start-up makes it necessary to balance the skimmers, suction and pool bottom inlets.
According to this, it is very likely that your suction vacuum head could work at low speed, after adjusting the
aforementioned inlets. However, if this is not possible, you can always configure additional time at high speed for the use
of the suction vacuum head.
2. Could my heating system work at low speed?
Generally yes, as long as your system is flow controlled (with a flow switch). Most heat exchange systems require a
minimum flow of 6 m
3
/h to work correctly. This minimum flow is guaranteed at low speed (except when the filter needs
a backwash).
