Electrical System for Towing Hitch
Installing the electrical kit
1. Remove the following covers and panelling as necessary:

On the driver's side
Driver's seat and cover below driver's seat

On the passenger's side
A-pillar cover underneath

2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Unlock the 9-pin plug connection beneath the vehicle on the rearmost cross member and
disconnect (fig. 1/3).
4. Connect these plugs with the appropriate mating connectors of the enclosed cable set.
5. Route the cable set to the socket mounting plate (fig. 1/2) and secure with the enclosed cable
ties.
Fitting the socket
6. Push contact insert into the socket housing and slide rubber seal up to the socket.
7. Secure the socket to the mounting plate with the screws provided (Fig. 1/2).
Connecting the trailer control unit
8. Using the Velcro fixing included in delivery, attach the trailer control unit to a suitable point
beneath the driver's seat (Fig. 1/1).
9. Connect the 2 x 4-way, 6-way and 8-way vehicle cable set plug housings into the sockets on
the trailer control unit (Fig. 1/1) and lock it in place.
10. Establish CAN bus connection between vehicle and trailer control unit: to do this, the 2-pin
black plug provided for this on the vehicle's cable loom (with several plugs check connection
to trailer control unit) must be connected to the black CAN distributor (fig. 1/4) on the
passenger's side in the area of the A-pillar. Also open the locking mechanism on the CAN
distributor on the side clips and then close again.
11. Please contact the Commercial Vehicle Service Centre for the required coding.
Checking functionality
12. Re-connect the vehicle battery.
13. Check the trailer's functions using suitable test equipment (with load resistances) or with a
trailer.
14. Secure all cables with cable ties.
15. Re-install all disassembled parts.
