safety, this winch should be mounted with three 3/8 in. or M10 bolts,
washers, lock washers and nuts (Fig. 2).
HANDLE
Install the handle (A) and secure with a lock nut (C).
CABLE AND HOOK
Select a winch cable with breaking strength that is at least 1-1 ⁄ 2 times the
winch rating (see Specifications). Select a hook that is 1-1 ⁄ 2 times stronger
than the winch cable.
WARNING! Use extreme care when replacing cable (wire rope). It is secured
under tension by the cable clamp, and may spring back forcefully.
REMOVING AN OLD CABLE
1.
Spool the existing cable onto the drum by turning the handle (A)
counterclockwise.
2.
Remove the drum nut (#10) from the drum bolt (#4). Pull the bolt out
and set aside.
3.
Remove the drum (#5) from the frame (#3). Maneuver the terminal
hook through the bushings. Remove the hook if necessary.
4.
Loosen the cable nut (#9), and then remove the old cable from
underneath the cable clamp (#8). Discard the cable.
5.
Continue to Mounting a New Cable or Mounting a New Nylon Strap, below.
MOUNTING A NEW CABLE
1.
Route the end of the new cable under the bushing (Fig. 3-1) and
through the hole to the outside of the drum.
2.
Insert the cable under the cable clamp
(Fig. 3-3).
3.
Tighten the cable nut (Fig. 3-2) securely.
4.
Reel the new cable onto the drum by
turning the handle clockwise, being careful
not to allow kinking.
5.
Test the winch for proper operation.
MOUNTING A NEW NYLON STRAP
If a nylon strap is used, it should have a loop sewn in one end and be
attached using a 3 /8 in. x 3 in. or 1 /4 in. x 2-3/4 in. long bolt and locknut
(not included).
