Setting the ignition timing
As ignition must take place before and not at TDC, the ignition timing specified by the vehicle
manufacturer can be set in degrees using the setting wheel and read from the display.
Note: Highlighting the marks with a white marker makes then easier to see.
Ignition timing setting for different types of marking using the example of 6 degrees before TDC
The engine has one reference mark on the engine
block and one mark on the pulley.
Preselect 6° on the adjusting wheel of the ignition
timing light, the value is shown in the display.
Turn the distributor until the mark on the crankshaft
timing belt pulley aligns with the mark on the engine
block.
The engine has one reference mark on the engine
block and multiple marks with gradations on the
pulley.
Preselect 6° on the adjusting wheel of the ignition
timing light, the value is shown in the display.
Turn the distributor until the 0° mark on the belt
pulley aligns with the mark on the engine block.
The engine has one reference mark on the pulley
block and marks with graduations on the engine
block.
Preselect 6° on the adjusting wheel of the ignition
timing light, the value is shown in the display.
Turn the distributor until the reference mark on the
pulley aligns with the 0° mark on the engine.
Caution: Never set the ignition timing light to 6° and additionally adjust the distributor to the 6° mark,
as this would set a pre-ignition angle of 12° before TDC.
