  • Page 3 INSTALLATION AND SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS FEDERAL SIGNAL MODEL 27XL FOR USE IN HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS SAFETY MESSAGE TO INSTALLERS, USERS AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL It is important to follow all instructions shipped with this product. This device is to be installed by a trained electrician who is thoroughly familiar with the National Electrical Code and /or Canadian Electrical Code and will follow the NEC and/or CEC Guidelines as well as all local codes.
  • Page 4 The Model 27XL LED Beacon is an explosion-proof visual signaling device listed for hazardous and marine locations. The Model 27XL is rated for 24 VDC, and 100 - 265 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The 27XL can be supplied with colors of red, amber, green and blue. The 27XL is factory set to operate at 60 flashes/minute.
  • Page 5 For marine applications, all wiring (including supply wire) must be stranded wire and meet USCG (CFR46) Section (110-113). The Model 27XL LED Beacon should be installed per the NEC or CEC, STATE and LOCAL CODES. Alternate installation locations and/or orientations should only be performed with the approval of the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Page 6 NOTE Ensure that the gaskets and o-rings are clear of the threads. To prevent galling and ease of future maintenance, ensure the threaded joint on the cover is clean and lubricated with corrosion-inhibiting grease such as petrola- tum or soap thickened mineral oils. Thread the cover clockwise into the fixture mount and secure with the locking set screw.

Federal Signal will service your equipment and provide technical assistance with any problems that cannot be handled locally by Federal Signal’s Distributor or Manufacturer Representative. Any units returned to Federal Signal for service, inspection, or repair must be accompanied by a Return Material Authorization number with a brief explanation of the service being requested and/or the nature of the malfunction.
  • Page 8 Due to certification, certain component parts are not available for field replacement. Units with this type of damage must be either replaced entirely or returned to Federal Signal for service. NOTE Although these devices are fused, they are not field serviceable. Should there be a failure on the printed circuit board, the unit must be returned in its entirety for service.
