The CEN-MOTOR SM-2 is a modern
centrifuge
especially
moulding small metal parts for the dental prothesis
sector. To ensure optimum operating conditions
and long life for the unit, please read this manual
carefully.
INSTALLING THE UNIT
1. Carefully unpack the CEN-MOTOR SM.-2 and
check that it has not suffered any damage in
transit.
2. Set it up on a firm, flat surface away from any
source of vibration or heat.
3. Set the unit up on its four supporting feet, then
adjust the position of those feet via the
adjusting nuts. To work properly the CEN-
MOTOR SM-2 must be perfectly horizontal, so
a spirit-level should be used in setting it up.
4. Connect the CEN-MOTOR SM-2 to an earthed
230 V, 50/60 Hz power outlet.
OPERATION
Connect the unit to a 230 V, 50/60 Hz earthed
●
socket.
Fit the cylinder (1) into its housing, ensuring
●
that the outlet is not obstructed and is perfectly
aligned with the hole in the crucible. Do this by
using the lifting device, which has a scale
matching the diameter of the crucible. This
simplifies the job of fitting the cylinder onto the
crucible. We recommend the use of MESTRA
cylinders and crucibles, which are designed to
give maximum performance with the CEN-
MOTOR SM-2.
Fit the arm counterweight (4) at a suitable
●
position. This counterweight slides easily along
the guide (5) when the fixing clip is released. To
facilitate this task, the guide is marked with
numbers that match the diameter of the
cylinder. (Read the table guide at the end of this
manual).
The arm has an automatic device to retract the
●
counterweight and cylinder/crucible assembly
around two articulations placed in the center of
the unit. Please, check out that this device have
worked right. Incorrect retraction (i.e. failure to
articulate fully) could lead to the loss of the
pour. Also ensure that the articulations can turn
freely. If any resistance is encored, consult your
authorized MESTRA dealer immediately.
Retract the counterweight and cylinder/crucible
●
assembly by turning the two articulations
towards the center of the unit, so that their final
shape is as shown in the figure below:

Once the arm is counterweighted, remove the
●
cylinder and crucible from their housing and
pre-heat them in the oven (to prevent heat
shock). We recommend MESTRA series HP
ovens.
Wear suitable protective goggles and gauntlets
●
when handling blowtorches, cylinders, hot
crucibles and the oven. After pre-heating fit the
crucible into its housing on the arm.
Place the metal pellets to be melted in the
●
crucible. Do not use too much: this could lead
to
crucible
splashing. To prevent heat-shock problems,
pre-heat the crucible before melting pellets.
Melt the metal in the crucible with an
●
oxyacetylene
continue to apply heat to the molten metal for a
further 10 seconds for normal melting point
precious metals and 15 for those with high
melting points after melting is completed.
When the melt reaches the right temperature,
●
take the pre-heated cylinder from the oven and
place it in its housing on the arm, ensuring that
it is properly aligned and attached.
With the cover open, use the on switch (6) on
●
the CEN-MOTOR SM-2.
The display (12) shows the centrifuge time. Use
●
the up (10) and down (11) keys to select the
time (the unit allows selection between 10 and
60 seconds only).
Press the TORQUE (8) key to select one of the
●
possible delayed start-ups. When the key is
pressed the delayed start-up selection changes
and the LED lights up. If "0" start-up is selected,
the motor will quickly increase to 100 % of its
speed; if "4" start-up is selected, the motor will
slowly increase to 100 % of its speed.
At the end of the manual there is a table with
●
recommended TORQUE values, in accordance
with the diameter of the cylinder and the level of
smelting.
Finally, to memorize the option selected (start-
●
up type and time) and commence the centrifuge
cycle, press the START key (7). The pilot will
light up and the centrifuge is ready for
operation.
Close the cover. The CEN-MOTOR SM-2 will
●
start up and fill the cylinder with molten metal.
Wait around 1 minute for the metal to solidify in
●
the cylinder.
Lift the lid. The unit will stop immediately, and
●
the cylinder and crucible can be removed.
