MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
To ensure reliable operation and a long lifetime for
your unit, proceed as follows:
Brush out the inside of the housing after each
●
use to remove any splashes of metal.
Remove any metal splashes on the crucible-
●
holder arm, ensuring particularly that the
articulations turn freely. Grease the articulations
from time to time with mineral grease.
To clean the housing of the unit use a cloth
●
moistened in soapy water.
Never use alcohol or other inflammable liquids
●
to clean the CEN-MOTOR SM-2.
It is normal for the crucible-holder arm and drive
●
shaft to oscillate while the CEN-MOTOR SM-2
is working. Rocking movements of up to 15 mm
are acceptable and envisaged by TALLERES
MESTRAITUA, S.L. If bigger movements occur
or unusual noises are heard, consult your
MESTRA dealer.
PRECAUTIONS
♦ Before connecting the unit ensure that the power
supply is 230 V, 50/60 Hz and earthed.
♦ Do not allow children or unskilled personnel to
handle the unit.
♦ Do not over-fill the crucible: excess molten metal
may splash out.
♦ Use suitable goggles and safety gauntlets when
melting metal and handling cylinders and
crucibles.
♦ Ensure that the fixing nut on the drive shaft is
tight before starting up the unit.
♦ Before using the unit ensure that it is properly
set up on a solid, level base.
♦ Check that the crucible outlet and cylinder
runner are properly lined up and attached.
♦ Ensure that the crucible holder arm is properly
counterweighted and folded before starting up
the unit.

♦ The machine should spin anticlockwise.
♦ Do not place liquids or inflammable materials in
the crucible.
♦ If the motor shaft locks during normal operation,
disconnect the unit from the mains before
attempting to release it by turning it manually.
♦ After the pour, handle the cylinder and crucible
with care: they are hot enough to burn.
HOW TO FIT THE COUNTERWEIGHT
Here
is
a table with
counterweight depending on the cylinder MESTRA
that
you
are
using.
counterweight, make sure that the line located just
above the correspondent inscription on the guide is
covered. For example, if a 70 mm cylinder is
placed, you should see the word marking 70-9X
and the line above this inscription should remain
covered.
