Installation and Connections
All associated apparatus should be assembled and installed prior to the installation of the telephone set.
WARNING: Before installing the Explosive Atmosphere Wall Telephone set, be sure the
telephone line wires are disconnected and secured at the protector.
Anti-seize compound RM-642708 (furnished with the set) must be applied to threaded
areas of both the apparatus unit and base to prevent galling and freezing of the threads
when the two are assembled. THERE SHALL BE NO SUBSTITUTES FOR THE SPECIFIED
ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND. Failure to use the anti-seize compound may result in an
explosion and will render the Explosive Atmosphere Wall Telephone set unrepairable.
Connect local wiring to terminals in the base of the set. Check unused conduit pipe plugs to insure that a
a minimum of five threads are engaged to permit installation of special cap fitting. Slide cap fitting onto
place over pipe plug. This cap must be assembled to base prior to assembly of the apparatus unit to the
base.
WARNING: Engaging fewer than five pipe threads may result in an explosion. Consult
the National Electrical Code and local building code.
Secure apparatus unit to base as follows:
1. Remove the apparatus faceplate cover by loosening the three mounting screws.
2. Loosen the No.8-32 Allen Setscrew to permit release of the locking pin.
3.
Apply the anti-seize compound (RM-642708) to the base unit threads.
4. Screw the apparatus unit a minimum of eight turns to the
anti-seize-coated threads of the base until the leaf springs of the base make contact with the
apparatus unit.
5. Align the apparatus unit with the base to permit depression of the locking pin into the hole in the base.
Depress the locking pin and tighten the No.8-32 Allen Setscrew. The cover may now be secured to
the apparatus unit by means of the three mounting screws.
6. Reconnect the telephone line wire at the protector.
Maintenance
GENERAL
Any set requiring repair or replacement should be removed from service by a Lucent Technologies
Technician or person trained in the installation and repair of telephones in an explosive environment and
returned to the Lucent Technologies Service Center. Explosive Atmosphere Wall Telephone repair must
be accomplished in accordance with Manufacturer's guidelines, the National Electrical Code, and local
building code. The only components which may be replaced on site are the dial, Switchhook Assembly,
and the Handset with Cord. All other failures must be returned to the Lucent Technologies Service Center
for repair/replacement.
WARNING: Before removing the Explosive Atmosphere Wall Telephone set for any
reason, be sure the line wires are disconnected and secured at the protector. Defects
due to any cause, even though seemingly slight, must be corrected without delay.
