INSTALLATION AND START UP OF THE APPLIANCE

Consult the installation procedures for the appliance enclosed with the present manual.

SWITCHING ON

Check that there is water in the tank. To fi ll in the water tank, take it our and pour water into the appropriate opening (Fig.2).
Plug in the machine. Put the tank back in its seat making sure that the water suction tube is not kinked.
Switch on the appliance by moving the main switch (A) downwards (Fig.3). The red light (E) turns on and the lights (F H G) start blinking. The cup warming surface will
start warming up and after 15 minutes it reaches the normal working temperature.
Note: in order to be able to use hot cups, it is recommended to switch on the machine at least 30 minutes before starting brewing coffee. To optimise the operation
of the machine it is recommended to use a maximum of 25 cups.
The needles of the thermometers (K-M) (Fig.4) start to rise until the correct working temperature is reached, as indicated by the lights (F-H-G) turning on (Fig.5). If the
lights do not turn on refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING chapter.
Note: Upon fi rst use or after a long period of inactivity, it is recommended to remove the capsule holder from its seat and to brew a few cups of water into a container
pressing the switches (B and D) downwards or upwards (Fig. 9/10).

PREPARING A COFFEE

The X2.1 machine is designed to be used only with the "Iperespresso" Amici capsules (Fig.6) and is able to brew one or two coffees at the same time, being equipped
with two completely independent brewing groups.
Make sure the tank is fi lled with fresh water.
Do not use distilled or demineralized water for preparing coffee.
Make sure that the lights (F and H) are on (Fig.5).
Release the capsule holder (S), insert a capsule (Fig.7) and secure it to its seat by rotating it towards the right until it locks in place (Fig. 8).
The machine is equipped with 2 different cup holder (Fig.11) that can be removed according to the user needs.
The machine can brew two different coffee volumes. By default the machine brews two volumes of an espresso coffee for each brewing group.
• By moving the brewing switch (B or D)
• By moving the brewing switch (B or D)
NOTE: Use the appropriate capsules for brewing an espresso or a long espresso. To brew a long espresso do not change the pre-set volumes and use the appropriate
capsules specifi cally designed to brew a long espresso. (Fig.12) Remove the cup holder (Fig.11) to brew a long espresso.
During brewing, in order to obtain a smaller volume of coffee than is programmed, it is always possible to interrupt the brewing by moving the switch again in the
same direction (manual stop mode).
It is possible to modify the brewing volumes programmed. By keeping the switch activated for more than 12 seconds during brewing, the machine goes into program-
ming mode. The volume brewed when the switch is released is memorized for the next brewing.
It is therefore possible to memorize up to 4 different volumes (2 for each brewing group).
At the end of the brewing cycle, release the capsule holder and remove the used capsule by turning the capsule holder upside down.
Repeat the sequence from the beginning to prepare another coffee.
NOTE: The machine interrupts the brewing cycle automatically if it continues for more than about a minute. In this case the light (F or H) start blinking slowly to indicate
that the brewing cycle has been interrupted. To return to the normal operation, turn the machine off and then turn it on again using the main switch (A).

DISPENSING STEAM AND FROTHING MILK (on certain models only)

The machine is fi tted with a steam wand (P) and a dedicated switch (C) to control its operation. When the light (G) is on the machine is ready to dispense steam (Fig.13).
In order to froth the milk needed to prepare a cappuccino, pour cold milk (it is recommended to use whole milk for a better result) into a metal container and follow
the instructions below:
• Make sure that the light (G) is on; move the switch downwards (Fig. 13), let the remaining water fl ow out of the steam wand spout until steam comes out and then
move the switch again downwards (Fig.13) to stop dispensing steam.
• Immerse the steam wand (P) into the milk container and move the switch downwards (Fig. 13).
• When the desired volume of froth is obtained, move again the switch downwards (Fig.13) to stop dispensing steam.
• Pour the froth and the milk into the cup containing the coffee.
IMPORTANT. At the end of every preparation, it is recommended to remove any milk residues from the steam wand (P), always avoiding direct contact with
the fi ngers (Fig. 14). Dispense a small amount of steam in order to remove milk residues from the holes on the steam wand spout.
The machine is equipped with a protection device that automatically stops dispensing steam after about 1 minute of continuous operation.
WARNING: Touching the steam wand (P) can cause serious burns. To avoid scalding your hands do not let the boiling milk or water overfl ow.
