Painting
Since the decals are white, virtually any of the range of GRAUPNER styrofoam spray paints, Order No.
928.xx, can be used. The decals are effective on any colours except the light shades.
This is the procedure for painting the cockpit window: first draw the window frame using a waterproof felt-
tip pen, then colour the inside area using black paint. The exhaust pipe should be painted silver. TIP: you
can spray a little GRAUPNER styrofoam spray paint into the can cap, then apply it to the model using a
brush.
A particularly attractive colour is the red paint, Order No. 928.2, and it has also proved to be very suitable
in practical usage. TIP: paint the underside of the sponsons in a different fluorescent colour, to help you
perceive the model's flight attitude at a distance.
Multi-colour paint schemes can be applied without problem using GRAUPNER styrofoam spray paints.
Picking out this unusual model's orientation in the air is not always easy, and to this end we recommend
that you do not use too dark a colour, as a dark scheme can be difficult to see in the air.
Read and observe the application instructions supplied with the paints.
NOTE: use paints of the same type and make EXCLUSIVELY, otherwise the colours may react with each
other and cause bubbles or other unwanted effects. Be particularly careful when combining spray can
paints with brushing paints, and always carry out a test on a piece of scrap material beforehand to ensure
compatibility.
To ensure that the colour paints adhere well, remove all traces of grease from the surfaces using a non-
greasy cleaning agent or meths. Try not to touch the surfaces again before applying the paint, as your
skin contains grease which will contaminate the surfaces once more.
Applying the decals
Cut out each decal carefully using a sharp pair of scissors, trimming as closely as possible to the edges.
First lay the decal on the model with the backing film still in place, as this allows you to adjust its position
and orientation. This also enables you to see irregularities and correct them.
NOTE: if you try to peel off a decal after applying it, you may pull off the underlying paint too. You can
avoid this by positioning the decal very carefully before finally applying it.
NOTE: HIER IST UNTEN means "this side down" in English.
First flight
Charge the batteries and test each of the model's working systems in turn, then carry out a full range check
with the model. Wait for a day with flat calm conditions, or no more than a very gentle breeze. Now you are
ready for the first flight. Ask an experienced modeller to give the model a gentle hand-launch, directly into any
wind. The electric motor has plenty of power for this model, so a powerful launch is not necessary. Trim the
model out as required, and allow yourself a little time to become accustomed to its flying characteristics. When
you feel "at home" with the model, you can try the first take-off from water. For this you will need a large
stretch of calm water with as few obstructions round the edges as possible.
All of us at Graupner hope you have loads of fun building and flying your GRAUPNER HYDROPLANE 3D.
