6.0 Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the glass

If the product is equipped with a glass door, it is necessary
from time to time to clean off the accumulated ash from
the inside surface of the glass. The amount of soot which
may deposit on the glass might depend upon the local
amount of draught present or the regulation of the air
control.
Some good advice! For general cleaning, use some kitchen
roll - soak it with hot water, and dip it into some ashes. Rub
the glass with the paper, and you will see that most of the
soot will disappear. Wipe off the glass with clean water
and dry completely before burning the stove. If it is
necessary to clean the glass more thoroughly, we re-
commend a "Glass cleaner".

6.2 Ash removal

Transfer the ashes through the door with a shovel or similar
tool. Leave a little ash in the bottom of the combustion
chamber as a protective insulating layer. Ashes should be
placed in a metal container with a tight fitting lid.

6.3 Cleaning and soot removal

At least once a year, perform a routine maintenance check.
A good time to do this is when you are cleaning the chimney
and connector.
During use of the stove, soot may deposit on the side walls.
Soot insulates a lot and will reduce the heat output of the
stove.
6.4 Sweeping of flue pipe up to the
chimney
The easiest way to clean the stove is through the door. To
clean the flue pipe, just remove the cooking plate and sweep
the pipe through the opening.

6.5 Checking the fireplace

Jøtul recommends that you personally control your stove
carefully after sweeping/cleaning. Check all visible surface
areas for cracks. Also check that all joints are sealed and
that the gaskets are in the correct position. Any gaskets
showing signs of wear or deformation must be replaced.
Thoroughly clean the gasket grooves, apply ceramic glue
(available from your local Jøtul dealer), and press the gasket
well into place. The joint will dry quickly.

6.6 Exterior maintenance

Painted products may, after some years of use, change
colour. The surface should be brushed of loose particles
before new paint is applied.

7.0 Service

7.1 Changing the burn plates (Fig. 7)
• Remove the old burn plates by lifting them off the boss.
• Brush clean the side plates in the oven before installing
the new burn plates.
• Lift the baffle plate by the front edge.
• Start with the left burn plate.
• Hang the burn plate on the boss of the side plate as
shown in fig. 7-A. This way the highest part of the burn
plate is supported by the ridge (fig. 7-B) at the upper
edge.
Note: Older models of Jøtul F 602 N have an additional two
bosses on each side plate. The burn plates fit on the boss
furthest to the front.

7.2 Changing the baffle plate

• Remove the old baffle plate by lifting it slightly up and
then edging it down and out.
• To reinstall, make sure the baffle plate rests securely
on the ridge in the rear (fig. 7-C) and on the bosses in
front.
Important note: If the baffle plate is positioned incorrectly,
the flue gas will go straight into the flue pipe. This will
result in too high flue gas temperatures, which may
damage the rear plate, and it will make heating
uneconomical.
