4 COMMISSIONING

4.1 INSTALLATION

Install the pump where safe access is guaranteed to the people
inspecting and servicing. If necessary, arrange for a container in
which to collect water from leaks, drains, pipe maintenance, etc. Install the
pump horizontally, with a maximum permitted slant of max 3°- 5°. Where
the pump stands must be flat and sufficiently rigid to prevent any
misalignment between the pump and the motor and any vibrations when
working. For fixing use the four supporting feet with through hole d.18,
20 mm depth, made out of the pump base.
The RLR pumps require a positive head (min 1 / max 6 bar) at pump inlet.
Use an impeller-type centrifugal pump with a flow rate at least double that
specified on the piston pump rating plate. The centrifugal pump must
work separately from the piston pump. The centrifugal pump must always
be started before the piston pump.
We suggest installing a pressure switch on the intake line downstream of
the filters to protect the pump against a possible no-water situation due to
clogged filters.
We suggest installing a gauge near the centrifugal pump so you can see
what the supply pressure is.

4.2 ALIGNING THE PUMP-MOTOR UNIT

Correct alignment is essential to ensure regular functioning and
long-life. In the case of transmission of motion by means of pulleys and
belts, use an alignment bar to align the pulley with the motor.
In the case of connection with a flexible joint, align using the relative bar,
keeping in mind that as regards angular alignment, a maximum deviation
of 3° is allowed. Alignment must always and only be done when the
motor is switched off.

4.3 ROTATION DIRECTION

Always observe the exact rotation direction indicated
by the arrow near the power take-off shaft.

4.4 PIPES

The layout of the pipes and their connection have a decisive
influence on how the pump works and its life.
The pipes must not transmit excessive forces or moments to the pump
they are connected to. They must be made to coincide before the bolts are
tightened; under no circumstances must you attempt to straighten the
pipes by tightening the flange bolts or threaded fittings.

4.4.1 Features of the intake pipes

In order to minimise vibrations in the system, we recommend connecting
flexible pipes both at the intake and delivery by the point corresponding
with the initial section of the pump.
The intake pipe must be sufficiently resistant to the centrifugal pump's 1÷6
bar supply pressure.
Its inside diameter must be a minimum 76.2 mm – 3 inches at all points.
Make sure all fittings and pipes are leakproof.
Do not use 90° elbows, connections with other pipes, constrictions,
reverse gradients, inverted "U" bends or tees.
Make sure the connections are such that when the pump stops the pipe
does not empty.

4.4.2 Features of the delivery pipes

In consideration of the high pressures employed, the delivery pipe must be
designed and built with materials suitable for such working conditions.
The same applies for any accessories installed.
When designing the system take into consideration the pressure drops
along the line.
To limit the pulsating loads, typical of piston pumps, install a suitable
dampener or flexible pipe (minimum 1.5 m long) between the pressure
regulator and pump connection.
The accessories listed below must be used on the pump's circuit.
Each accessory shall be correctly dimensioned/rated and meet the
requirements of current standards:
• Gauge
• Safety valve
