Can I connect a SCSI-1 device with a 25 pole connection (for example a scanner)
to the DC-29160 U3W?
Yes, when using an adapter. All you have to watch out for is the correct
termination. Please note that the SCSI bus is reset into SE-mode.
Can I connect a SCSI-2 device to the DC-29160 U3W using a 50 pole and a 68 pole
connection?
Yes, when using an adapter. All you have to watch out for is the correct
termination. Please note that the SCSI bus is reset into SE-mode.
Can I operate IDE hard disks / CD-ROMs together with SCSI devices in one
computer?
Yes, this is possible and will cause no problems. If you want to boot from a SCSI
hard disk, change the boot sequence on the main board BIOS to "SCSI".
SCSIFMT only enables me to create partitions of 2GB, but I've got a 36GB hard
disk?
DOS limits partition size to 2048 Mbyte. Larger partitions can be created via
FDISK, for instance; in order to do this, you need the FAT32 support of Microsoft.
My CD-ROM drive works under Windows, but not under DOS?
First install the DOS drivers for the CD-ROM drive, compare chapter III
(Installation Under DOS/Windows 3.x)
I used to have another host adapter in my computer, why is access to my data
impossible now?
Different manufacturers use different mapping procedures when low-level
formatting. A hard disk set up at adapter X need not necessarily work at adapter
Y. Save your data before replacing the host adapter and carry out a low-level
formatting with the new host adapter. Install your hard drive now as usual and
replay your data.
My drive letters are not assigned as they should be, why?
When assigning drive letters, Microsoft uses the following algorithm: IDE before
SCSI, hard drives before CD-ROM drives, primary partitions first, then extended
partitions with logical drives. Don't create any primary partitions on new hard
drives connected to the system, so that the older letters are not mixed up. CD-
ROM drives can explicitly be assigned drive letters in the Windows device
manager. Use, for instance, Z: for the CD-ROM drive; this letter will be kept no
matter how many drives are installed subsequently.
