3.4. Summary of SCSIFMT Command Line Switches
/PORT=xxx
When simultaneously using several SCSI host adapters, this parameter
indicates the adapter number (starting with 0). If only one host adapter
is used, this parameter does not require further specification.
4. Installation of CD-ROM drives
To install CD-ROM drives the MSCDEX program (component of the DOS
operating system) is additionally needed. As a CD-ROM offers a completely different
data structure from a floppy disk or hard disk, for instance, whereas the file system
of DOS is based on a structure of FAT and directories, MSCDEX contains another file
system management which enables DOS to communicate with the CD-ROM drive.
While loading, MSDEX is installed as a resident programme in the main memory of
the computer.
Automatic installation of CD-ROM drives is initiated by addressing the DOSINST.
installation programme. Insert your Dawicontrol driver disk into your disk drive and
enter A:\dos\dosinst at the prompt. The menu which then appears allows you to select
the drivers to be installed. To initialise a CD-ROM drive, select the menu items SCSI
CAM/ASPI Driver and CD-ROM Driver, move the illuminated bar on Install and hit
RETURN. The installation is now automatically completed; restarting the system is
necessary to load the drivers.
The manual installation of CD-ROM drives follows three steps: Basically, the
DC29160.SYS driver must first be included in the CONFIG.SYS file; afterwards, the
CDROM.SYS device driver for CD-ROM drives must be addressed in the CONFIG.SYS
file, too. Only then can the actual installation of the CD-ROM drives be carried out by
addressing MSCDEX in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
