Input Status Monitoring
The Power Fail signal is generated by measuring the input-capacitor voltage level after the bridge rectifier. If the mains input voltage drops to a
certain minimum level, the Power Fail signal is activated.
Power Fail activated :
Vin < minimum mains input voltage = 93 resp. 187VAC depending upon input selector switch 115/230VAC settings. Green LED "MAINS
OK" is off.
Power Fail deactivated :
Vin > minimum mains input voltage = 93 resp. 187VAC depending upon input selector switch 115/230VAC settings. Green LED "MAINS
OK" is on.
The hystereses is bigger than the main input ripple at the input capacitor. The Power Fail signal is electronically available on the connector (Con
3 / Pin 6 & 7). The electronically signal on the connector is specified as follows:
If Power Fail is activated ( AC-Power Fail = Mains NOT OK) then relay contact is closed (Factory Set LK02 set). The relay provides
60VDC/0.36A and 500V isolation to the power supply secondary side and case. The Power Fail relay has a switching time of typically 1.5ms
(excluding bouncing time).
An internal jumper (LK01) can be set to invert the Power Fail signal on the connector. If the jumper LK01 is set relay contact opens if Power Fail
is activated. If LK01 is set the jumper LK02 has to be removed.
An other internal jumper (LK03) can be set to used the open collector output from the opto-coupler. If Power Fail then the opto-coupler is ON. As
open collector Pin 6 (Con 3) should be GND and Pin 7 (Con 3) is the open collector output. The maximum current should be 10mA which will
give V
= 0.6VDC and V

Factory set is: On the connector (Con 3 / Pin 6 & 7) Power Fail signal from relay contacts available and the relay contact is closed if Power Fail
is deactivated Main is OK. (LK02 set).

The power supply input capacitors will buffer against input voltage dropouts (cycle dropping) so the Power Fail will not be activated by this event.
This leads to the following threshold Hold-up time at full load:

The Power Fail signal is also activated in case of a short circuit at the output, as no voltage exist to power the relay even if mains is OK.

Description
The SIG option module, which is built-in the power supply, provides
information about the input and output status and in addition to that a
-Vout
power supply controller is available. In total three functions are
available.
+
1. Monitoring of input status. The status of this signal is indicated in
two ways. Visually (via LED Mains OK) and electronically (via
-
relay contact and open collector output).
2. Monitoring of output status. The status of this signal is also
Common
indicated in two ways. Visually (via LED DC OK) and
AC-Powerfail
electronically (via relay contact).
3. Power supply controller. (Remote/External ON/OFF).The power
supply can be switched into a stand-by mode by using this function.
The signal module uses typically 40mA supply current. This allows the
main output to supply the full power.
