5.
Connect the inductive clamp to the
spark plug lead on cylinder number 1
(Fig. 2) by sliding the top of the clamp'
back, positioning the spark plug lead
in the opening and then sliding the
clamp shut. The arrow on the clamp
must point towards the spark plug for
the tool to work correctly. The check
light on the tool's side will shine if the
induction clamp is set up incorrectly.
The clamp will detect the electrical
pulse to the spark plug during the
engine cycle.
6.
Connect the tool's black negative clamp (-) to the negative battery terminal
and the red positive clamp (-) to the battery's positive terminal (see Fig. 2).
7.
Start the engine and operate at normal idle speed. Set the knob to zero on
the timing dial (Fig. 3).
8.
Aim the timing light so it will illuminate
the timing mark and press the trigger.
Observe the reading and compare it
with the manufacturer's specification.
You will need to adjust the timing if it
does not match the specifications.
9.
Stop the engine.
CHECKING THE IDLE TIMING
Checking the idle timing determines if the
cylinder is at Top Dead Center during the
engine cycle.
1.
Follow the General Operating
Procedures.
2.
In Step 6, set the timing dial knob to
match the Ignition Timing number
from the manufacturer (Fig. 4).
