SMALL ENGINES
The Engine Timing Light can be used on any combustion engine that uses an
impulse ignition, such as a magnetic ignition, or a high voltage spark for
ignition. Examples are engines found on motorcycles, lawn mowers or outboard
motors. An external 12V battery is required for smaller engines that do not have
a 12 Volt DC system available.
1.
Connect a ground from the negative post of the external battery to the engine.
2.
Connect the red clip to the ( +) positive terminal and a black clip to the (-)
negative terminal of the battery.
3.
Connect the inductive clamp to the spark plug wire.
4.
Locate the pointer and timing marks.
5.
Follow the steps in General Operating Procedures and consult the engine
manual for timing information.
