Startup

5.1

Starting up the system

DANGER
Uncontrolled system movement
When starting up, if the position measuring system is part
of a closed loop system whose parameters have not yet
been set, the system may perform uncontrolled
movements. This could result in personal injury and
equipment damage.
► Persons must keep away from the system's
hazardous zones.
► Startup must be performed only by trained technical
personnel.
► Observe the safety instructions of the equipment or
system manufacturer.
1. Check connections for tightness and correct polarity.
Replace damaged connections or devices.
2. Turn on the system.

Teach in null point

– The null point function must be performed when
starting up the sensor. This defines the available
measuring range.
– When exchanging the sensor head or magnetic tape,
the null point function must be performed again.
1. Move the sensor head to the end position on the cable
side.
2. Send the IO-Link system command 0xE0 (teach in null
point).
⇒ The IO-Link command sets the current position
value to 0 mm and defines the current position as
the lower limit of the measuring range. This position
must not be undercut, otherwise the measuring
system issues an error.
5.3

Check system function

Check all functions as follows after assembling the position
measuring system and exchanging the sensor head or
magnetic tape:
1. Switch on the sensor head supply voltage.
2. Evaluate the position data.
3. Move the sensor head along the entire measuring
range. No error is allowed to occur in the data set or to
be indicated by the LED. Troubleshooting measures are
described in section 10.1.
4. Check that the count direction of all interfaces
corresponds with the direction of travel, and correct
the controller parameterization if necessary.

Operating notes

– Check and record the function of the position
measuring system and all associated components on a
regular basis.
– If there are malfunctions in the position measuring
system, take it out of service and secure it against
unauthorized operation (see also Troubleshooting on
page 22).
– Secure the system against unauthorized use.
When switching on, the sensor head must be
over the magnetic tape, otherwise an error is
displayed.
During operation, the sensor head may not be
removed from and replaced on the magnetic
tape and may also not be moved out over or
into the tape. Leaving the permitted working
range is indicated by an error.
