4. Operating

Operating the measuring device
4.1.
Combustion air temperature probes
The combustion air temperature probe should not be pulled with the cable from the
bush or the support. The connection for the combustion air temperature probe and the
probe in plug form is located at the underside of the device. The combustion air
temperature probe will be used for fire places that are independent from ambient air.
The probe is 280 mm long and has a cross section of 8 mm, with 2 m of cable. The
combustion air probe in plug form, without the cable, is about 5 cm long.
Important: The offset value for the combustion air temperature probe or probe in plug
form must be entered under program item "TAoffs" for each TA probe (plug form) (5-digit
number, cfr. chapter 9). This offset value can be read from each TA probe (plug form). It
will not be necessary to enter the value if the combustion air temperature is measured
with the waste gas probe only.
4.2
Accu operation
Attention:
Do not charge dry batteries !
Mains operations will not be possible!
If you connect a charging device, the Econometer E 98 will be switched off itself.
Instead of the four 1.5 volt Mignon dry batteries installed by the factory we can use 4
Mignon accus of 1.2 volt (cfr. accessories). The accus can be charged via the charging
terminal of the device (cfr. accessories).
The regular charging equipment will not recognize the charge condition of the
accus. That is why the accus should be first discharged entirely prior to charging, so
as to achieve the longest possible lifetime (memory effect). The charging equipment
will switch to maintenance charging as soon as the accus have been charged.
The quick charging equipment has an automatic switch-off function that will
interrupt the charging as soon as the accus are charged. It will also be possible to
charge up partially discharged accus. Maximum quick charging time required will be 1
hour. There are two different operating conditions for charging. The red LED will burn
continuously during the quick charging procedure. If the green LED lights up, the quick
charging procedure will be completed and the device will have switched to
maintenance charging.
The accus can also be charged externally by means of a universal charging
equipment. This procedure requires the cover of the battery case to be opened and
the accus to be removed.
Remove first the cables from the battery case and then the battery cages, one after the
other.
