9.2 SEARCH TIPS

a) In order to improve signal reception, perform the R2
Finder turns as indicated in Figure 14, while always
keeping your arm stretched upwards.
b) Do not touch the antennas while performing the search,
reception may be affected.
c) When the search is being performed in GPS mode, the
receiver must be placed flat on the palm of your hand to
ensure that the compass gives us the exact direction.
Otherwise, the word "TILT" will be shown, which implies
that the R2 Finder position is not correct for for opera-
tion. (See Figure 15).
d) The R2 Finder has been designed to be held by the
hunter at chest height. The body will act as a screen,
thus improving the receiver's directionality. Otherwise,
discrimination between front and rear signals in radio
tracking searches would get worse.
e) To achieve maximum signal reception, place the R2
Finder so that the antenna is parallel to that of the collar
as shown in Figure 16.
f) In especially complicated terrains, we recommend us-
ing an external antenna to improve reception and/or
range.
g) If you lose the radio tracking signal in the R2 Finder, find
a high point in the terrain to try to overcome any physical
obstructions that prevent correct reception of the signal.
(See Figure 17).
