draw chiefly from the soil. This extraction of food
is reduced to a minimum by the return of organic
humus naturally to the soil.
Organic fertilisers are decomposed in the soil by
bacteria, and are transfor med into the important
nutrients absor bed by the plants.
Humus regulates the water-balance in the fertile
topsoil, allows for sufficient aeration of the soil and
facilitates growth of roots.
Well-fertilised soil produces better growth and a
richer harvest. When used in conjunction with
good, systematic rotation, humus can in many ca-
ses prevent soil fatigue.
Proper shredding material
Organic substances, when shredded and mixed
into the soil, become biological fertilisers and
make excellent compost.
Organic substabce include e.g.: branches, twigs,
shrubs, flowerstalks, vegetable waste, leaves, pa-
per, cardboard ets.
ADVICE
Do not shred:
Roots of any kind with soil and sto-
nes attached (will damaged the cut-
ters), plastic materials, plastic bags,
glass, metal objects, bones, box-
wood, rags etc..
Garden waste with a high seed con-
tent is not suitable for suface com-
posting!
Feeding
Always switch on the motor prior to feeding mate-
rial into the shredder.
Use Top Feed for:
Twigs, branches, shrubs up to 13 mm Ø
Vegetable and flower waste, paper, card-
board
Paper and cardboard:
Do not fold too thickly when feeding into the
funnel. Should be fed in try.
CAUTION!
Remove metal clips and staples
from cardboard before shredding.
Do not feed in colour publication,
mail order catalogues etc., as these
contain substances which are unsui-
table for composting.
Garden and kitchen waste with a high water con-
tent, for example vegetable leaves, flowerstalks
18
General points on shredding and composting
etc. tend to stick, and can clog the ejector slot and
block the motor. Allowing waste of this kind to dry
for a few days will make shredding easier.
Several single twigs at a time may be fed in
through top funnel.
Use SIDE FEED for:
All branches up to approx. 35 (40) mm Ø.
Save the thinner twigs at the end of the
branch for top feed.
CAUTION!
When the cutters are sharp they pull
in the waste material with considera-
ble force, and thicker branches must
befirmly held back to avoid overloa-
ding the motor.
We recommend the wearing of gl-
oves and protective glasses while
shredding.
Twigs and branches should be shredded imme-
diately after cutting, while they are still full of sap
and we recommend either shredding dra material
from the time to time during this operation, or re-
serving the dry material until last.
This will absorb the moisture in the shredder and
clean the inside automatically. Do not however,
neglect to remove any residue from the shred-
der once the task is finished (First disconnect the
main plug).
If finer shredding is required, feed the material
through the funnel a second time.
