A dirty or clogged air filter leads to a variety of problems including restricted air intake, reduced engine
power, increased fuel consumption and a higher incidence of fouled spark plugs.
(A) Clamp screw
Notes: Models R-Start and R-Start Pilot use an attached foam air
filter (see photo for exact location). The air filter for all other
models is held inside the airbox.
To maintain a healthy engine, observe the following precautions after every dusty
ride:
1.
Loosen the clamp screw (A) and remove the cover to the air filter
2.
Remove the air filter.
3.
Use a mild detergent such as dish soap with water to wash both sides of the filter. Rinse
thoroughly and allow to air dry for 24 hours.
4.
Examine the air filter and look for signs of dirt or build-up. If damaged, replace it with a new
one.
5.
Once dry, apply a thin layer of new air MINERVA OIL PROTECT AIR oil and rub the areas
gently to help remove any excess of oil (do not over-oil as it will cause poor air intake)
6.
Re-install the (new) air filter into the housing and re-attach with the clamp screw.
